Now, i don't know what was being played before that tune, but it also depends on the rest of the set, rather than the tune itself. I've seen good djs playing average tunes and filling the floor because the mix was flowing properly. I have also witnessed weak djs empting the floor with great tunes just because they all had different tempos/styles

Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham https://youtu.be/iGcM_tcJ6Tk

Found this piece of info today on wikipedia. It says that in the intentions of the writers this was meant to be an out and out "cheatin' song". The song was co-written by Penn, a professional songwriter and producer, and Moman, a former session guitarist at Phil Spector's Gold Star Studio, and also the owner of American Sound Studio in Memphis, Tennessee. The song itself was ultimately recorded across town at Royal Studios, home of HI Records. In the summer of 1966, while a DJ convention was being held in Memphis, Penn and Moman were cheating while playing cards with Florida DJ Don Schroeder,[1] and decided to write the song while on a break. Penn said of the song “We were always wanting to come up with the best cheatin’ song. Ever.”[2] The duo went to the hotel room of Quinton Claunch, another Muscle Shoals alumnus, and founder of Hi Records, to write. Claunch told them, "Boys, you can use my room on one condition, which is that you give me that song for James Carr. They said I had a deal, and they kept their word.” The song, lyrics and all, was written in about thirty minutes.[3] The song is the lament from an adulterer to his illicit lover, told from the adulterer's point of view. According to the lyrics, they continue their sins, "hiding in shadows where [they] don't belong" because their "love keeps coming on strong." At the climax of the song, the narrator fears "they're gonna find us some day."

Rick, It's the first time that i have actually read those lyrics from a different perspective, a very interesting point of view. But there are also a couple of verses that go like It's a sin and we know it's wrong Oh, our love keeps going on strong And i don't think they would have talked about sins and being wrong if it had been about an interracial love. Anyway, songs and lyrics like these click on so many emotional levels that they can always be interpreted in several ways, none being the "right" one.

This is one of my favourite soul tunes. I am trying to get to listen to as many good versions as possible. So far I've managed to track down great renditions by the following artists: James Carr Aretha Franklin Percy Sledge Roy Hamilton Little Milton Prince Buster Clarence Carter Dorothy Moore (probably the weakest of all the above-mentioned) Any other good version by soul(ful) artists you would recommend?

No, I don't mind great tune! -
Received my 2 Box Sets yesterday (1 for me, 1 meant to be a present). Ordered these from Amazon Italy, paid 44 € each, including p&p, which makes it quite cheaper than the original uk price. Both sets are ok and they play ok. Those who have had problems with skips might need to check their stylus, weight on the tonearm or the anti-skating. As the vinyl is quite thin, the grooves themselves are not as deep as on the average 60's/70's 45, so this might be the cause for skipping. Sound quality is very good, albeit a bit too compressed for my likings, but that's what the kind of sound you get in 2013, I guess... An amazing box set and thoroughly recommended to all music lovers

Back to the actual topic. Seller 's account has been suspended as it is suspected of being fraudulent.

Yes you are right. However, it seems to me that a lot of people tend to generalise. As you say, this thing has been raised before, yet no actual names were named, just the usual "many won't post to Italy". So what? Some sellers on here overgrade records, does this mean that all uk dealers or private sellers overgrade their records? As to the actual post i was commenting, "10+ parcels 'lost' in a year?" Each to their own but if it was me, after the 2nd or 3rd i would make registered delivery mandatory, wouldn't probably wait until 10+ go missing. If 1 single name was named, at least we would know whom not to deal with.
-
Will you please avoid generalisations? There are several honest collectors in Italy, myself included. I have been buying recs on here since 2005 (been on ebay since 2001). Bought several dozens of tunes from 5£ to 1500£, not a single problem, apart from a couple of hassles... Did you really send 10 records to italy in one year and they all went missing? Will you please specify to whom? As a "member" of a small community, i am sure my other fellow collectors would like to know who claims that parcels were not delievered. As to this seller, i have just contacted him regarding a record, will see what his reply is and where he is actaully based. Giulio

Personally i think that if you write something like "100% guarantee,,return for refund if not satisfied", you should take the record back. In this specific case the buyer is not satisfied with the lack of information. As to the actual nature of this thread, well i don't know what to think. It's up to the seller and the buyer to sort it out as there is not a standard on such occasions. They both have their reasons. Also, what normally happens is that both buyer/seller get to read a few written phrases in a way which is normally not what was originally meant. If there's a chance, people should always talk, rather than exchanging emails/msgs

The Thornton Sisters - I Keep Forgetting - Cuppy
Soulfuljules replied to Soulfuljules's topic in Look At Your Box
ok, so Dr Yvonne Thornton posted tonight a couple of comments that probably clear this matter " I am ONE HUNDRED PERCENT positive that The Thornton Sisters did NOT make this recording. What I believed happened was that our former manager, Sonny Cassella (of questionable repute) put our name on this Cuppy label and put it out as being recorded by us (The Thornton Sisters) when in reality it was manufactured by studio musicians." "We WERE the only group recording under the name of The Thornton Sisters (a sextuplet of musicians). According to the American Federation of Musicians, there was only ONE group of musicians called The Thornton Sisters between 1960 to the present. I DO believe that Sonny Cassella (our former manager) was less than honest in putting our name on this Cuppy recording which we didn't record. Shame on him." -

Soulfuljules replied to Soulfuljules's topic in Look At Your Box
yeah, i had read the article and found it very interesting indeed. the thing is that it implies that the group that recorded I Keep Forgetting is the same group that recorded Big City Boy, while Yvonne Thornton strongly denies it. -

Hi Gary, what do you mean by legit? the record itself is certainly an original 1965 pressing. whether the group were the thornton sisters that recorded Big City Boy or (according to Yvonne Thornton) not, well I don't know. Could have simply been another group with the same name. It wouldn't certainly be the first case in black music
