Autumn Of Tomorrow ?
Excellent work Mike a true labor of love. I always find The Crow - Autumn Of Your Tomorrow to be a bit disturbing, if you play it backwards it says some thing about Ian Levine?

Djs On Top Of Their Game ?
I'd love to put a thumb up Sean Chapman; he played at the Hipshakers do on Saturday night this weekend at The Isle of Wight Scooter Rally. I love enthusiasm and when the dance floor finds it infectious it becomes special. Sean thanks for playing "Twinkle Little Star" for me. You get a special mention today for doing your best to stop the knobbers taking their drinks onto the dance floor, my pet hate! I have taken the liberty of adding a little write up about my exploits on the island, please feel free to comment and mods do NOT move this to the events page or I will put a thumb up you! IOW 2009 Pictures on here: https://www.tafsc.com/IOW2009DS.htm With the crack of an engine and the blue sting of oily smoke the IOW was in reach. The cars shuffle off slowly joining their frustrating que that will lead them on to their weekend holiday destinations. For us it was towards Rhyd and toward the biggest Scootering weekend on the planet. The noise from two hundred scooters was a prelude to the weekend and the bustling ferry crews tried forlornly to stop us from revving up. Amongst the Island dialect you could hear the faint sound of German 'twang", a distant reminder of The IOW's war time history. The IOW's occupation is part of our hidden history, many of the islanders where brave members of The Rhyd Rsistance yet most of Cowes collaborated with the Germans. To this day German is still spoken in some of the smaller villages on the south side of the island especially in those villages closest to the Deutsche Marine U boat base. Soon it was our turn to disembark, the overnight crossing from Southend to the IOW was expensive to say the least but the extra £20 to upgrade to a cabin was well worth it and I was feeling refreshed and raring to go after a night in the Moonlight lounge on C deck. This year I had left our travel arrangements to Derek as we had decided against camping due to my back giving me a bit of jip and we rode the last remaining 600 meters to our BnB literally around them corner from the ferry and just 13 miles from the nearest Scootering event this meant a £6 bus trip followed by a £35 taxi ride back to our digs, we spent £123 on taxis and busses over the weekend, well done Derek! Three days n nights of full on reveling became a bit of a blur with the only real memory left being that of my bank manager texting me every three hours and begging me to stop. It was an expensive to do even with my Primark man bag filled with beer bought from Somerfield's, expensive but worth it. The sun made a more than welcome appearance and the sea front was transformed into a crazy world of middle aged men riding beautiful scooters and the carnival atmosphere reigned supreme from start to finish. I did think the numbers where down a little this year but it was nice to see the dreadful gated section not being used on the Esplanade, last year it caused a lot of ill feeling so it was great to see things back to normal. Sitting here now on Tuesday morning after riding 244 miles on a Sneterton racing seat and not quite being able to move my back properly, I sit and reflect whether it was worth it? Mmmm difficult one this, but I will have to say yes and yes I will be back. It was excellent to see so many club members on the island even though we hadn't planned any official meetings is was kinda nice to meander at leisure with no pressure and to be honest every one gets swallowed up in the spectacle of the weekend. Great weather and I took the opportunity on the Sunday to ride around the island sight seeing, never done this before and it is a must! The island has a rich history, including a brief status as an independent kingdom in the 15th century. Badger-baiting is still legal on the island and I visited Atherfield on the south side to watch a couple of fights. Conscious of the time I made for Rookley to visit Dave Plenty's grandparents who are now in their nineties but still very much with it. I was greeted with a hand shake that nearly broke my wrist and it was seconds before a cold German beer was thrust into my hand. Dieter Plenty arrived on the island in 1940 along with the Kampfgruppe and married Margaret three weeks later. The German hospitality was warm and friendly and I was invited to join them for the Beerfest at Sandown, sadly time was not on my side so I reluctantly said no "Der Vogel fliegt am schnellsten" Mega scooter rally, mega weather and mega mates!

Richard Searling To Quit Smooth Fm
A long Bosnia tour was made a little special to me by the people who taped and sent me Richards show on Jazz FM. I think this was the first time I had ever heard Northernsoul being packaged and served with such care and profession, a credit to Richard and his craft.

Better Than The Original?
"Born to Be Alive" was released on both 7 and 12 inch but there are rumors that a 14 inch deep pan version by Doug Parkinson was released in Austria?
-
Better Than The Original?
does any one have the old Wigan patch with "Born to be alive" on it?
-
Better Than The Original?
Have to disagree with you here Baz, Born to be alive was a top dancer and still is, the 100 Club is possibly the only place that still regularly plays the original.
-
Better Than The Original?
Better than the original? You tell me You have to let this one run for a bit as there is some excellent Northernsoul type dancing later on in the video. The question is, "Can a cover be better than the original"? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-vhOx4BpC0

Soul Loyalty Cards
If there is a bar at the venue then the entrance should be free! No change that: If there is a bar at the venue then the landlord/organizer should be paying me to get in! I think there is a lot of greed in some place that have a bar, especially soul nights where the bar is as busy as the dance floor. If there is a decline in nighters and soul do's then so what? The soul fraternity is a traveling one so all we do is go back to what we did in the lean years? I was there, it was mega and we just got in the car and drove, easy peasy lemon squeezy. Yup Trev n Shaz cant get pissed up and walk home singing "Do I love you indeed I do" stopping at Majorcan bodegas selling fish and chips and Watney's Red Barrel and calamares and two veg and sitting in their cotton frocks squirting Timothy White's suncream all over their puffy raw swollen purulent flesh 'cos they "overdid it on the first day." And being herded into endless Hotel Miramars and Bellvueses and Continentales with their modern international luxury roomettes and draught Red Barrel and swimming pools full of fat German businessmen pretending they're acrobats forming pyramids and frightening the children and barging into queues and if you're not at your table spot on seven you miss the bowl of Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup, the first item on the menu of International Cuisine, and every Thursday night the hotel has a bloody cabaret in the bar, featuring a tiny emaciated dago with nine-inch hips and some bloated fat tart with her hair brylcreemed down and a big arse presenting Flamenco for Foreigners And then some adenoidal typists from Birmingham with flabby white legs and diarrhoea trying to pick up hairy bandy-legged wop waiters called Manuel and once a week there's an excursion to the local Roman Remains to buy cherryade and melted ice cream and bleeding Watney's Red Barrel and one evening you visit the so called typical restaurant with local colour and atmosphere and you sit next to a party from Rhyl who keep singing "Torremolinos, torremolinos" and complaining about the food - "It's so greasy isn't it?" - and you get cornered by some drunken greengrocer from Luton with an Instamatic camera and Dr. Scholl sandals and last Tuesday's Daily Express and he drones on and on about how Mr. Smith should be running this country and how many languages Enoch Pow ell can speak and then he throws up over the Cuba Libres

Soul Sourcers In The Community
Soul Sourcers in the community It takes heart (Mods please feel free to move to the appropriate slot?) Not been out for a bit because me n the missus have been acting as host family for two kids over from Belarus. Nastasia and Masha are visiting Barnsley as part of a respite campaign run by the Chernobyl Child Life Line. These kids have all been affected by the legacy of Chernobyl. Nastasia and Masha are staying with Carol and I for a month as part of the Chernobyl Children's Life Line whose mission is to get as many youngsters to have a months worth of uncontaminated food, this allows thier immune system to rebuild and it is predicted that this in turn will prolong thier lives by two years! On the evening of the 8th of July, me and another "Soul Sourcer", Barney along with the Barnsley PALS SC took the kids out for a run around Barnsley and surrounding area finishing at Jump W.M.C. for buffet and a children's party with a magician. The Barnsley PALS SC and The AFSC raised enough money for another child s to come to Barnsley from Belarus in 2010. I wanted to sling this up as there have been quite a few Soul Sourcers asking about this and besides, I mega proud of it. The youtube clip has no audio; can any one add an appropriate track?

A Million Reasons To Be On Soul Source
A Million reasons to be on Soul Source Congratulations why? Mike well done and thank you for providing the very best forum and meeting place for Soulies on the net. A million posts is a true testimony to how important a solid platform is for us to visit, read and post. I would like to mark this occasion by having a thread for us to give our reasons for being on here, mine first...... Before joining soul Source I was aware of two or three alternative forums for Northernsoul and indeed I was a member of one of them for quite a long time quite a long time ago. I had visited soul source on a number of occasions but felt it was a little "stiff" and that the train spotter had firmly taken root stifling the fun and scaring the mere mortals from posting, well that was my honest perception so I was a little reluctant to join at first. I knew some of the main posters and respected their opinions (Pete Smith) and to be perfectly honest I was a little nervous to post having been warned that it was a humorless clinical environment with the emphasis firmly on the anorak. I took a deep breath and dove in hoping I wouldn't have to fight of too many nerds. I must say that for the last few years of being a member of this forum I have had a mega time. The depth of experience and knowledge is mind-blowing and the sheer passion and love for our music is staggering. The moderation here is sensible and responsible without too many teddy bears being thrown or dummies being spat out. I have been made to feel welcome and part of this forum and long may it reign, thank you Mike, The Moderating Team and all involved but most of all the soul Source Members. Why are you here?

Soul Loyalty Cards
The Scootering scene has mirrored the soul scene as we all know so I'll tell you of a scheme we have had or should I say used to have. The lambretta Club of Great Britain Super Dealer Scheme The idea was that when you joined The Lambretta Club of Great Britain you could get 10% discount on participating scooter dealers. In return for this the scooter dealers got to say that they where part of the lambretta Club of Great Britain Super Dealer Scheme and The Lambretta Club of Great Britain Members where encouraged to shop with them, every one was a winner. It only broke down when discounts for cash purchases where given followed by the customer expecting a further discount for being a The Lambretta Club Of Great Britain member so in reality the dealer was expected to reduce a bill some times by 20%, not great business practice. I think loyalty cards on the nighter scene is a mega idea. If you don't like the idea then don't expect a card, simple. Can we expect a Northernsoul Club Of Great Britain? Might be some mileage in this one if it takes off with punter power for once calling the shots, could it hurt? The Scootering scene has seen a few great ideas grow from necessity such as the National Runs Committee back in the day when we where being harassed by the police and a new public order act. We then had VFM (Value for money) an alternative venue organised for people who didn't want to pay through the nose. We now have The Scooter Alliances who sell merchandise such as pin badges throughout the year then put on a big do and if you are wearing a pin badge your entry is a lot cheaper. Sadly Rugbysoulgirl I think the reality of our scene is such that we only have a small (in comparison) amount of travelers and those who stay local and do the soul nights are going to be there any way.
