Ian you are totally out of order! I remember the fighting outside the Casino over instrumentals versus vocals it used to get out of hand and in 1974 there was a massive riot resulting in a young strings fan being hospitalized, I thought all that was over but sadly not. Oi Soulsmith, you calling me a clown? You are heading for a custard pie in the face me old China! I think you're a "Clowns pocket"

Kinell Ian that's mega and your info has just added a little missing jigsaw piece into one of my memory banks, Major Minor had A Touch Of Velvet-A Sting Of Brass (I'm always banging on about that track!). Great orchestral productions with almost "John Barry" sensitivity and crossover to the mainstream, without compromising the poetry, if you know what I mean? This track should be out there, played now! Superb music.- Lovin' Is Really My Game
Ste, that was me mate- Raymond Lefevre - Soul Coaxing
Raymond Lefevre - Soul Coaxing Just had me in tears Raymond Lefevre - Soul Coaxing (Ame C¢line) 1968 written by Michel Polnareff. Never heard this version before and I stumbled upon it on youtube, the soaring strings have just made me cry. Who, what, when, where did this track come from and has this version ever been outed on our scene? Not sure if it's a mega dancer but I kinda freakin love it!!!- Lovin' Is Really My Game
Lovin' is Really My Game Dancing on me own again? Ever rushed onto the dance floor to your fave only to find a stamped the other way leaving you dancing on your own and feeling a little abandoned, not that this has ever happened to me you understand its just that I have this mate who loves Northernsoul but finds him self dancing on his own more often than not. Any tracks you love that have left you kicking the tumble weeds from the floor? Brainstorm - Lovin' is Really My Game springs to mind for me and Curtis how can I tell Her ................. "I did used to be cool once" ................ Honest.- Beach Music N Northernsoul
Pete I recon there are a few tracks that cross over but the scene seams very familiar: Predominately white people, the cloths look nigh on the same with the smart casual look, and take away the couples and the dancing looks closer to ors than any thing I have seen? Going back to the music, it sounds like a typical RnB room to my un trained ear?- Beach Music N Northernsoul

For some reason as soon as I select PM my page locks? Theresa ring me, My Mobile number is 07877333236 and my land line is 0114 2838923- Beach Music N Northernsoul
I am having a Helen Keller moment here, how do you add youtube clips?????/ Just can't see it and no doubt its right under my nose???- Beach Music N Northernsoul
Ooooooh err matron! Theresa you beat me to it! I have just spent an enjoyable half hour on Youtube watching some incredible dancing "Shagging" I can quite honestly say that there aren't many ladies on the scene that I wouldn't shag!!! No that's not true coz I would get all greedy and dance on my own, Ooooooh err matron! Top tip Youtube Shag Theresa, not been out for a while and wont be for anther three weeks while we have these two little Belarusian girls over so see you soon xx- Beach Music N Northernsoul
I think Beach Music and surf Music are two very separate things. Surf music is sixties harmonizing made popular by The Beach Boys. Beach Music I think is more RnB influenced slower Rock with a dance a little like a slower Jitterbug called the Shag? That's about as much as I know apart from us sharing some of the tracks that have entered into our Northernsoul Culture. My reference to The Beach Boys was due to shared tracks Papa oow mow mow done by played at The Casino by The Rivingtons and The Sharonattes? I think Gary Gliter did it as well................ Papa Oow Mow mow that is......- Which Black Artist Paved The Way
Which Black Artist Paved the Way? Excellent question and one that has no easy answer because I truly believe that we will never know the unknown singers and musicians of black America who inspired the first pioneers, and they where pioneers, to cut records such as Sun Records. I don't think we can have an answer without appreciating and trying to understand black America prior to the civil rights movement that precluded black artists from the mainstream radio. Sam Phillips of Sun Records took a great leap of faith and needed some courage to sign his new stable of Americana, and let's face it the white artists where singing black because black artists could not cross the tracks at this time. My heroes are those nameless black musicians who adapted the music of slavery and fused with white trash church musicians to form the Blues, RnB, Gospel, Rock n Roll and Soul we love so much. If I was pressed to say who I thought was the most inspirational black American artist then I would have to go along with the crowd and say Richard Wayne Penniman - Little Richard. He was possibly the most courageous trail blazer ever, a real Punk Rocker of his day with out him we would not have had the Beatles, the stones, The Who, and Punk. He was a transvestite bisexual who wore make up and lip stick on stage, his sexually charged lyrics would have seen him instantly banned if the main stream could ever guess the true meanings, Tutti Frutti was the word for anal sex! To even think of a black man singing about sex in those days would have seen a lynching. Black musicians where pretty much the product of the studio until The Black Panther movement and I think possibly Marvin Gaye was the first really free artist? He was certainly frustrated as he wanted to change the music from the Motown recipe before Black Power. Stubborn Kind Of Fellow - Marvin Gaye 1962? Sammy Davis was in chains and accused of being a Uncle Tom watermelon as was so many of the black artists at the time so I am going to go with Little Richard- Beach Music N Northernsoul
Beach Music n Northernsoul Beach V Northernsoul For more years than I care to remember, I have been proud in the knowledge that our little Northernsoul community have saved, or at least cherished some of the abandoned and forgotten American Soul tracks. We all know the story of black soul artists coming over to perform for or little clique and being blown away at the response this side of the pond due to the fact that they are more often than not obscure and forgotten back home. Beach music, I must confess to not knowing very much about this subject but every now and again I find out that one of our adopted US tracks isn't the forgotten and abandoned track as we often assume, some of them enjoy a lease of life as part of the US Beach Scene, if that's the right terminology? My first ever ignorant fumble into Beach Music was courtesy of The Futures Party Time Man. I was mindlessly Youtubing music, as you do and came across the Beach boys playing Papa Oom-Mow-Mow, can any one throw any light onto Beach music for me please, how many cross pollinating tracks are there and what size of following and who by is beach Music? Is it any thing like the UK Northernsoul Scene?- Which Black Artist Paved The Way
Does Al Jolson count?- Which Black Artist Paved The Way
Elvis was as black as the ace of spades, don't forget most heard him on radio first. He was from the wrong side of the tracks, poor white trash? There is a very rare early recording done at Sun where Elvis and three other up and coming artists "Jammed" together and the songs they all sang where black church songs. Elvis was the first Soulie, he was just magnificent then the money machine took him from us.- Which Black Artist Paved The Way
Elvis- I Belive We Maybe In A Revival Then Again I Hope Not
Imagine if Northernsoul did go main stream and enter into fashion, who or what would sell out? Its all very well saying that you wouldn¢Å¾¢t play that and you wouldn¢Å¾¢t play this but what would happen if the venue was chocker block full of young kids demanding you play Footsee? I for one think it would be fantastic if there was a Northernsoul revival similar to the Mod revival in the 8T¢Å¾¢s. Wouldn¢Å¾¢t it be a joy to see some where like Stoke full to the rafters with teenagers clapping along to Casino Classics.- I Belive We Maybe In A Revival Then Again I Hope Not

I wish certain people within the scene would stop slaging off Wigan's Ovation! As far as I can see their crime was to appear on TOTPS. If there weren¢Å¾¢t bands like Wigan's Ovation then we wouldn¢Å¾¢t have had Edwin Starr or Jackie Wilson. We certainly would not have had the session¢Å¾¢s musicians such as Van McCoy. Jim McClusky¢Å¾¢s career died the day the gutter press hounded him and the band after TOTPS, depriving the UK scene of a rare home grown soul talent. Northern Soul Dancer stands on its own as one of the best forgotten soulful records ever!- Fear Of The Mainstream
..."Do I want the wider public to discover this amazing music It¢Å¾¢s not been much of a secret since Footsee on Top of the Pops The music is easily available at any CD store now days and many MP3 players have a slice of Northern on it. I for one have seen the trendy bendies come and go with as much love and connection towards our music as a spoilt kid at Christmas with a puppy. I have seen the beer on the dance floor and the ..."did you call my pint a puff brigade and I have seen the tourists who visit just long enough to film yet another shallow or one sided TV documentary or photograph for a CD cover.- Few Problems
