Passionate, everyone involved was, for that moment they posted, a real Soulie.

Apologies for the slow response, I just been knee-deep in that Mecca thread you dragged up.
  3. Loose connection to what you are talking about but similar, I remember watching Kamizra dj in Manchester for a good hour and a half,...then watch him take the cd he had been miming to out the cd player...it's always gone on and still does. Did anyone enjoy themselves any less? No.

That thread and the records mentioned should stand testament to the breadth of this scene....it is that broad musically that I almost can't believe there are ever any arguments about what is Northern...it's nothing other than what was/is embraced.

    Ian!??

That's fine mate, we've all got our own minds and ears but a dealer pushing it on his list generally meant he had a fifty box of 'em, so has very little bearing on the (your) argument.
  7. I know what you mean but talking inbetween tracks gives a moments reflection and sets up a completely different space for the next track...it has a time and a place ....but I know what you mean.
  8. Blokes talking on a mike inbetween records bemuses and annoys most kids I know out there, the majority having been brought up on house music culture. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy that style of dj-ing but I don't think kids would give a hoot if they didn't.

Anyone know a list price and then a real price for it?
  11. Barry posted a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
Just seen this on Manship's site @ £57 with a couple of week on it and am amazed at the price of it - sure it was a soul pack fave. I've had this buried for years and have kept going back to it every now and then, as you do with the backroom boxes of stuff, but it's never rubbed me up the right way. WOT A BELTER!! Is this indicative of what is played on the funkier side of NS at present?

The european side of things, weekenders, dj's, collectors has this cross-pollenated at all with the UK scene?
  13. The boot caused the mud with the label stating 'If You Ask Me...(Because I Love You)'

The tempo thing; was there less young blood on the scene when the tempo dropped? Did tempo's drop?

    Bless you.
  16. I know the album version, just don't rememeber ever hearing it out over the years. Always the seven.

Not being arsey Kev - but I struggle to dislike black vocals on most things, so it, to me also, has appeal as it has a black fella singing on it.

At one time it was all Crossover, another R&B, now funk elements are in vogue on the scene from what I understand. Trending is a great thing as it can only expand followers knowledge of black music as a whole, widens the target and reduces the narrow arrow that Northern once was. But how does it happen? Is there a conscious effort by certain jocks to take it that (whichever) way? Or is it initiated by the dealers, maybe, passing on to jocks the only 'new' sounds that are available to an ever-hungry and curious scene? Or does it take the movers and shakers to say it's okay before certain groups of people are able to find other forms of Soul accessible? It can only end up with people eventually understanding that there is a big wide world of black music out there - but will this ultimately bring about the death of the Northern Scene as such, replacing it with a beautiful world where all forms of retro-ethnic music can be played? The church has never been broader than at the moment.
  20. The album cut ever get played out?
