Older people ruled by Habit you say. If that is the case can we say that 'Younger' people are ruled by Fashion and Peer pressure, unable to make up their own minds and go along with the trend or what their mates are doing. Swings both ways. Older people are probably not 'ruled by Habit' but have been around long enough to have experienced plenty and have found what they like the most. Change for change sake is not always good. One mans tat is another mans gold. If you don't like something is it OK to tell others that they are wrong. Bon Jovi are on a massive Sell Out Tour at present - feckin' hate Bon Jovi but obviously it appeals to thousands, and looking at record sales, millions of others. Who is wrong or write ??? Musical acceptance - Acceptance is a negative word in that it implies you had no other choise but to accept. There's nothing you can do about it so you may as well accept it ?!?!? - That's what buggered it up to start with !! A huge thumbs up to Barry and PeteS as they agree with my point of view ?? Noice !!!!!

Collecting Records
Getting a bit older and a bit more 'free cash' allows you to patch up your collection with the good stuff. Trying to sell on the other hand is a tad more difficult. Only sell the ones I don't really want or play which coincidentally everyone else is doing the same. The good stuff goes for more than ever these days but the mediocre stuff goes for a lot less. - Not fair !!!

Yes - as long as its not rare for rare sake then I'm on board - Quality is the main objective. Back in the early days it was a bit like Monty Python - 1/2 hr of drivel for 5 mins of genius !!

That is something that's been batted about on here for years. Frustrates the hell out of me but I get told I must move with the times. Possibly why I started this thread.

Excuses or reinventing History - Never altered in my take on things. Stating facts but using a generalism in doing so. People grew up and out of it yes, but not all. The ones that are left, and there are quite a few of us, still love the music and still want to listen to what we want to listen to. Not forcing you to as well but would like the room to do so in piece. Others may think we are drifting into senility but hey, we will be happy. Is it too much to ask for a bit of respect or are we slipping into some unwanted political state.

Do you not feel it's rather arrogant to assume you know better and that you are right in your assumptions. Grandad, 2 World Wars etc etc

Not all removed themselves from the Circus in the 80's and 90's. In defence of those that did, it probably wasn't because it wasn't for them but due to financial restraints from raising Families etc. But is that reason enough to tell them where they are obviously wrong ??

Ironically, this Mr 50 + has never told anybody what they should and shouldn't listen to or what they should be listening to next. My playlist is mine - theirs is theirs. Who am I to lecture to someone. Don't need to be told what to listen to, need to be allowed to listen to what I want to listen to without having to listen to people telling me what I should be listening to. Our generation brought in NS and now, it seems, we are being told which road to turn off on to get to Metropolis Quite happy to trundle away on my little dirt track to the 60's. Again, you want to jump on the Greyhound to the Big City then buy your ticket and enjoy the ride.

I understand where you are coming from but is it right to tell others what to do. Not your thing but my thing. Not a lover of a lot of the new stuff, doesn't have the depth for me but I'm not telling you or anyone else you are wrong. By the way, notice I said ' for me ' !!

We must stop playing Oldies ! Selfishly, just NS, why not all Genres of Music. No more Elvis, Beethoven, The Beatles, Glen Miller, Rory Gallagher, Miles Davis, Bob Marley etc Sounds like a Brave New World and I for one would like a front row ticket - perhaps

A pish record ?? Any in particular. As a 16 year old who attended Nighter's in the 70's for a few years i heard too many pish records but amongst the pish was an undercurrent of quality that has been lost amongst the pish that the 40 somethings are listening to now and telling us that this is the pish that we used to listen to. Obviously if you weren't there in the 70's for those few years of Nighters you are entitled to comment on thier qualiIes. Must be my age. Nothing wrong with Euthanasia, just as good as the youth in Africa.

15 years ago I was a Forty Something and we held the remote control No longer the ruling class, a new breed of Forty Somethings have overpowered the old Silverback and now control the remote. The old 45's have been resigned to the back of the box and the ATB is now the creme atop the milk. Should we "Gracefully Step Aside" and let them takeaway our music or perhaps stand up to them and takeback what is ours. Continually lambasted for liking what we like and told that Across the Board or 'Rare Soul' is the way. Can we just be left to our own devices and let us enjoy our retirement ? Are we allowed to bring OVO into the conversation at this point or are we too early ??

Sounds That Die When A Club Goes Under
Yep - That's spot on Rob. Did a Samantha's 'revival' night last year and thought I'd play Zola for old times sake ( Saw Dr No and King Errison Band is featured which reminded me ). After I'd played it I thought to myself - Why the feck was that so big at Sams ??

Sounds That Die When A Club Goes Under
Tracks is played quite a bit round these here parts - played it myself last Friday. Sounds good banging out full volume. William Powell mentioned earlier in the thread - amazing track, so raw and honest. As though they got thrown in a studio and told 'you've got 15 minutes, do something special' Think they did it ??

Sounds That Die When A Club Goes Under
Brooky, I think some of the time its a matter of falling out of love with a track. There are many that when I first heard them I thought they were terrific but now wouldn't give the time of day for. eg The Dells - Run For Cover - Sick to death of hearing it. I am a huge Bowie fan and from the mid to late 60's relished every release made under his name. Changes, Life On Mars, Space Oddity were all life changing tunes that now, I would rather turn off the radio. Hating something is slightly different. don't usually hate something then grow to love it. Perhaps not sure about something but it grows on you. Don't feel its a Fashion thing, well not for me. I like what I like and don't like what I don't. Has no bearing on others or trends. The Majestic's, always fills a floor and everyone seems to love it - Bag of Shite as far as I'm concerned but hey, each to their own. Perhaps in our Youth we were Dedicated Followers Of Fashion but as we mature we find our own place and are less likely to be influenced by outsiders. The Outsiders - now there's a good track.

The Poppies invokes fond memories of Samantha's back in the mid 70's - Happy days. Love it. Played it (on the White Epic Demo) one night and someone told me they had the original, on a Red Columbia Special !! And all these years I thought mine was a first issue !!! My wife loves Parmesan, I hate Cheese - If we all like the same stuff it would be a boring life. No one on Soul Source would be able to tell me where I am going wrong, as they do, frequently.
