  1. donald lee richardson/got me in the palm of your hand .... lou courtney/trying to find a woman.....
  2. er dunno ! sounds confusing but maybe both originals just different pressing plants as jm's book says nothing about 2nd issues/boots on mamie galore but does on other st lawrence releases (johnny sayles, butch baker) ...
  3. you go demented funky chicken !...i cant be still when behind the decks and cant understand how some djs can just stand there twiddling there thumbs for 2 mins before the next tune....especially as i normally think a couple of tunes ahead so im not desperately flikcking thru tunes before the player finishes... as for should djs play for the dancers f*** yes !...ok if you wanna sit down or stand there all night chatting listening to the music thats upto you but just think if EVERYONE did that...i dont think there would be much of an atmosphere however good the music and anyway in my opinion a good crowd who wants to dance with passion and have a good time also helps to make a good dj set...we 'feed' off each other.... back to the original question...ive been a vinyl collector since i was about 6....which is why i started djing , i had a passion bordering on obsession with music...i tried playing guitar, bass and drums and could do it (not all at once obviously) but it wasnt for me....i wanted to play other peoples music...not any music i have to love what i play....ive djed all sub genres of reggae for 20 years and can get the same buzz off certain reggae tunes as northern, rnb, two tone punk and indie... aswell as my 60s soul/rnb residency at go go if i guest at a soul night there are a few 70s tunes i love and may play...i also do an indie residency and may sing out to the stone roses or the smiths but many a student asks for something that 'sorry mate havnt got it with me' which means f*** off i think thats shit to be honest !....but ive always got something they will like....and without sounding like an arrogant wanker (i hope) always get complimented on my set(reggae ,soul or indie)...because as both a collector AND a dj i have a passion and do it cos i luv it....which in my opinion is the ONLY reason for doin it.... sorry to waffle on...did i answer the question ?....great thread ! although ....even though i class myself as both a dj and collector i agree with the idea some ARE just djs and will play across the board to suit the crowd and some ARE collectors with great tunes but shouldnt be let within a mile of a pair of dex....
  4. spooky !...ive just received a real one today ...sadly it wasnt free and thankfully well packed ..but what a tune !
  5. anyone got a spare in vg cond. 1st issue blue tex on blue label please...cant afford demos or mis spelt titles !
  6. well i meant djs but yes there would be less of all three really....most pressing djs i presume are their own promoters and less of those punters who didnt want to travel further than a taxi ride.. and i know punters who buy vinyl both original and pressings....hasnt collecting 7s always been a big part of this scene...whether dj or not ?
  7. ere mate do u wanna buy sum pressings ?... ... but seriously yes if ALL djs played ovo there would be less of us, as there are those who cant/wont pay the money for originals, especially those only into the big money nostalgia tunes....so less nights....probably better nights, thats providing people would still travel like they did many moons ago.....some would but a lot wouldnt.... not saying this is necesserally a bad thing...just an opinion same things happening with the scooter scene....once upon a time there would only be 9 rallies a year with massive turnouts from all over the country....now most of us cant /dont want to manage more than a few hours on a scoot in the rain so there are more, not quite so good local rallies/do's....

sorry mate you wernt the first....got it on a 10" by 'dodgy'...and before anyone says it no its not dodgy its quite good !.... als version is ok...good lyrics...plenty snakes out there ay girls ? BUT i came from the scootering scene to the soul scene (although i knew and liked northern before through my older bruv)..and like so many of us am bored with it now.....but some still love it...at the last 'scootering do' i played at it got requested twice !
  9. at last ! someone who agrees with me about this tune.....yes its a good song etc but its played EVERY WHERE I GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!....and the best thing about it for me is it gives me a chance to rest my achey legs... this kinda overlaps with the cheap/expensive thread.....£200 when every nite plays it and it comes up for sale on e bay at least once a month....but what more/zz hill you hardly ever see for sale or hear out but has been in the wanted section on here at least 3 times this month and it only books for £10 !!!...although someone on here offered me one at 40 ...then i got one for 15... anyway rant over im off for my tea
  10. its alright....i played it at a student/indie thing i play at but wouldnt play it at a soul night.... better than duffy yes but after the write ups id read i was a tad dissapointed...drum beat could have been better....not as good as lord large on acid jazz and as for that coke ad ...not a good move for her....thought her voice was 'ok' before that now irritating as f*** !!
  11. sorted ! thanx dean
  12. ...anyone got a spare ??.....dont have to be a minter !
  13. Spacehopper replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
i picked a mint one up for less than 30 maybe a year or so ago..... play it every few months down here in bristol got a request for it at riverside gloucester before xmas great tune
  14. love the jackie day ...heard ginger play it a few months back at bridgewater...
  15. WHAT MORE/ZZ HILL KENT 432......missed this on here recently....anyone else got one for sale ?
  16. i think it depends where you are....and how much the night is costing if youre a promoter.... if its a small town you are probably the only club open and will get those sad drunk men who dont wanna go home alone.....if its costing you a lot of money for big name djs and the crowd isnt what you expected you might not have a choice but to let them in.....i feel sorry for anyone in this position and its a shame if it ruins thier future events at go go children in bristol we get passers by and friends of friends who arnt 'on the scene' but they are always well behaved.....although at times dont seem to understand about dancing with drinks !!.....luckily for us being a big city there are other clubs open all night not 5 minutes away full of half naked drunk woman to attract the twats.... i played in bath the other week and because of the snow numbers were down, the promoter almost let the people in from the pub above us but as he had covered his costs he made the right choice of having just a couple of dozen people in who knew the score and were up for it rather than a packed venue of people who may have f***** about and ruined it for others...
  17. while i recognise some of the troubles that have been mentioned...and maybe in the future they will damage it....at the moment i dont think the 'scene' is in trouble....venues will come and go for whatever reason but there are still loads to choose from every weekend if you really want it....another thread would say theres too much.....so if a few more venues shut wouldnt that make those who remained, and the scene in general better ?.... ....not that i want to see nites finishing you understand !...i know most people do it with passion and put a lot of work into it... or should do !!
  18. too young to ride a scoot in the seventies but rode to many a soul nite all over norfolk in the 80s....drinking and worse ! ....wouldnt dream of it now....too cold did look good all the scoots lined up outside though there was a scoot all modded up at berkley last year...not sure if it was the nighter....think it was the revival night but was foggy as f*** as he headed off home to wales at 4 in the mornin !!!

think manship has flame n king for £50 !.... hey little way out girl was my first northern buy ...pic sleeve way back in 78 aged 11...still love it and getting a few spins again around here as is the flip eula cooper....obviously not on grapevine tho...
  23. ive not read all the posts so sorry if i repeat...but this is my two penies worth !..... firstly none of us can see in the future so none of us can know what will be popular in 30 years time......remember 7"s were suppose to only last a few months or years at most back in the 60s...who would have thought 40 years on some would be selling for 4 figures.....i can remember in the 80s cds were IT .....then it was mini discs......then mp3...then ipods and downloads.....now cds are struggling and no one has an mp3 player...and through all this there is still a market for vinyl.....and not only us....different genres and age groups...hopefully one day people will realise they are being conned by new technology.... i think sometimes we think WE are the soul scene.....this music will still be around long after us,whether in the us ,europe or yet another revival in the uk by kids who may not even be born yet who knows.... credit crunch ?.....they come around every decade or so...things will be good again one day its all a case of timing when you sell.....and even now checkout ebay some people have still got money and are buying tunes for big money !...if you have the tunes (and who knows the big money tunes of the future,it only takes a big name dj to start playing them )...if you sell one a week for a few hudred quid its more than most pensions pay out so yeah i am relying on my little collection being worth a few quid one day.....not enuff to retire in the caribean...but i trust vinyl more than some shady character in a suit who will make his money and maybe lose mine !! 15 years ago i sold a scooter and shed full of bits for a grand which would be worth five times that ammount now !!!!!.... nobody KNOWS...
  24. got asked for my top three last week by a bristol journo /soul fan for a bit about its 50th in the local paper and in the time id written and sent the mail id changed my mind....and then remembered another !!...so many to choose from....at the moment and getting a spin tonite for the first time in a few months its....martha reeves and the vandellas/ive got to let you go....despite the isleys being my overall favourite motown artist...martha always make me wanna dance
  25. NO PROBLEM....in fact ive never had a prob with any northern dealer.....(not inc ebay sellers)...i think they know it would be all over this site if they were dodgy.....aswell as that most are/were soulies too
