  1. never been.....booked for next year...thought we better see what all the fuss was about... know the campsite stuff though dj'd at hemsby and camber for the last 4 years or so...much the same i should imagine...camber has had a face lift too and we will be in the soul room in 2 weeks! dean
  2. but whos detail is actually right!...people on here have said women didnt do acrobatic dancing back in the wigan days..others said they did......people have said women didnt wear the big skirts back at wigan...others including a vid ive seen with keb on saying they did..... no one was at every soul night or even probably every wigan and most of our memories (i wasnt there but mine from the 80s) are a little blurred.... im suprised to hear so much negativity considering its a soul fan WHO WAS THERE making it unlike soul boy.....i dont think shes cashing in in fact shes taking a big risk...and maybe shes starting to wonder why bother if the hardcore soul fans on here are ready to knock the smallest of mistakes... i liked the trailor and the young dancers have really come on since the first sessions i look forward to watching it dean
  3. my parents used to go to the flamingo from norwich in the 50s and early 60s...aswell as ronnie scotts...finished by 62 as my older brother (a yate,st ives go-er) was born...so im third generation of niter go-er!! my auntie and mums best friend were both seeing black american servicemen..auntie got married to one sadly we are no longer it touch..especially from a record buying point of view!! :-)...i can remember in the 70s when we were in touch my parents would be clubbing with them again at the usaf bases around norfolk...where they would have soul bands flown in from the states to perform...sadly she cant remember any names they were the bessed dressed teens in norwich with the clothes they got from london and it was the first place she'd seen drugs...although she never took them.... dean
  4. anyone going to the bristol gig at the academy dont forget go go children is on the same night 5 minutes walk down the road if she doesnt finish too late!! dean
  5. well personally i dont think a mans ego can harm the scene in any way but like it or not levine playing at the 100 club will probably bring more people in than push them away and that cant be a bad thing as crowds have been down at a lot of venues of late... there are a lot of big egos on this and any scene but the music will carry on regardless dean
  6. just seen it on facebook too....sure he will be good....either you have an ear for a tune or not and ians history says he has..wotever some of you may think of him....reckon it will be good for the scene to have him back dean
  7. good review of what sounded a good night...although been to 'the dam' 3 times and always had a good time!!...next time gonna have to take in the soul club....and the 19th may 2012 is the weekend after my 45th so sounds as good a time as any !! dean
  8. yeah i recognised a few from kings hall...although i'd seen them at kings hall before i saw the dance practise vids... dean
  9. looks good to me but then i liked soulboy with all its cheese and mistakes so what do i know...as has been said its only a bloody film a bit of entertainment....looks a bit more ruffer than soulboy which would be good but then as i understand it this trailer was made a couple of years back so hope the finished article wont be too polished dean think i may have said somewhere already the youngsters on you tube seem to be getting into the music so be good if they start getting into the scene and spreading the faith and not just keeping it
  10. maybe youre right....but i thought it was funny
  11. i did the rave scene for a couple of years in the 90s before gettin bored...human traffic...brilliant film and just like the scene back then...it can be done dean
  12. SOMETHING FUNNYS GOING ON-BERTHA TILLMAN-BRENT...... dont know if anyone else out there is playing this, not seen it on any play/sales lists....but out of all my new spins at go go children down here in bristol it seems to be picking up the most requests from long time soulies and newcomers alike... not in manships book ,picked it up off chapman records a few months back...described as mod/rnb dancer which it is but its also soulful enough not to be called 'rock n roll shit ' by rnb haters !! and its loads better than 'lovin time' dean

  14. i think there will always be so many 'hardly used' technics in the second hand market from all the bedroom dance djs who got bored with it .. no need to worry... heard about these laser decks back in the 90s from a reggae dealer who used to sell to some wealthy japenese...what will that do to the price of vinyl as far as condition goes ?? apparently scratched vinyl sounds as good as ex as theres no contact with the needle and the scratch dean
  15. my tuppence worth......i think money has sumfin to do with overall numbers being down BUT...wot about those that are out....down here in the sw Des Parker probably introduces more new discoveries than most and i can remember being one of the few on the dancefloor a few years back to tunes that are now filling the floor....but 'most' people are not dancin to his newer plays when they probably will in a couple of years !!...it certainly takes longer to break tunes when there are twice as many venues as there was back in the 70s..... but i do find it strange the old casino goers etc just wanting to dance to what they know when they were younger they craved for new tunes didnt they ?...so maybe age and 'it was better in my day' syndrome has sumfin to do with it....the yougsters at go go children who dont know the top 500 will dance to anything uptempo and soulful....and maybe there was an abundance of quality northern to pick from back then compared to now but you cant tell me tunes such as the parliaments, kindly shepherds,jt parker etc are not as good... went to lifeline for the first time a few weeks back and loved it....angela davis/my love is strong is niccis new fave WOW what a tune !...will be upto stoke for the bidds alnighter...talking of stoke i love kings hall although some of the tunes are a bit same old the atmosphere and venue makes it... so i think theres a place for us all...we should expect that most people will be into 'nostalgia' but also people (not just djs/collectors) should open their ears a bit to things they dont know....find the beat and dance..who cares if you dont know the words...lastly i dont think the price of a tune has anything to do with it after all most peole dont know what things are worth when they are out on the floor (gutted when i got back from lifeline and checked the book on the angela davis...600!)...but a good dancer is a good dancer...my best 'new' tune is raful neals/you dont love me no more...funky as f*** but with a rnb feel..love it and it cost me a fiver and only books at 15...happy daze dean
