Wouldn't it be more fun to try and guess what the next track will be? I'll have a 50p double on Felice Taylor's "I feel love comin' on" and Sue Thompson's "Paper tiger".

Yeh, thanks guys. I can't stop licking the screen now!

OK, here we go, more news for the hordes of avid readers of this topic. I've now taken delivery of said 45, and ...... ta-ra IMHO it's not a boot. For a start it's number is 2001 not 2000, the label show it as a "DJ copy" although it's not a white label but a red one, its on styrene. The "official" A side is "Some woman's bedroom" and "Just ask me" is a seventies version of the 60's tune done in a sort of a Hi/Willie Mitchell cum disco style, not too bad actually, old Lenis still had the goods. Soooooo, it begs the question, is LeGrand 1042 a boot? or a second issue (legit)? or the first pressing (sic) before the SPQR issue? Is anyone listening?, should I, like others before me, get me coat?
-
Brett, on De-Vel? Green and red label? It's been on my wants list for ages, can't seem to locate a copy (at my price, granted!). The ones that have come up on t'Bay have been snapped up pronto, not a lot of UK dealers seem to be listing it. The last one on Ebay (gum!) was "withdrawn from sale", presumably because the seller got an offer they couldn't refuse!!!! I'll keep searchin' !!! Agree with your comments, a wonderful tune!

Cheers "Chalks", I've now been informed that the "2000" copy is a second press w/ diff flip "due to local demand"! My informant says that the Legrand label continued to issue product well into the 80's (mainly re-issues for the "beach" scene - what's that all about?) and the numbering scheme used was all over the shop, so don't read anything into the differences between the numbers. I dunno!

Chalky, Mick, itM, Grant & Kolla, all well and good boys and girls. I've got a STYRENE copy on SPQR, gold label, black writing, stamped matrix, BUT, I'm shortly to take delivery of copy on LEGRAND 2000 NOT 1042!!!! with the "Bedroom" flip side. Now then, second issue? boot? repress? Is this the one that Johnny Minichip is selling? C'mon peeps, lets have a scan of the Legrand 45 (1042 OR 2000) and settle this. (I also had the orange/ochre/muck coloured boot w/inst flip AND the bloody awful Elsie Strong on Finally! (faded "arctic" blue colour if memory serves)! - did ever a disc look soooooooo booted?)
-
Anyone out there got any info (label scans, waffle, etc.) on the Legrand issue of Lenis Guess' "Just Ask Me". Something along the lines of the "Rock Candy" post will do (I got a white label demo of "Alone" in near mint cond from Ebay a short while ago, can't remember what I paid for it, but it wasn't a lot). For example, was it issued more than once on Legrand?, was it issued before the SPQR issue? Is it a re-cut? I've given up with Google and endless entries for Michel LeGrand!!!!!

Mikey, got a link to Dave Flynn's "site"? I'm intrigued.

Pat ,n, Steve, loving the show more and more. Can I just say that I prefer your, shall we say, "downhome" approach to broadcasting, rather than the sub-mobile disco approach of some shows (no names, no pack drill). It sounds as though it's just a couple of guys, wholly into the music, playing some sounds for whoever. Perfect!!! Don't change when you get really successful. Finally, the "Boza" comes from the generic term used for where I live, Bolsover or the Peoples Democratic Republic of Bolsover as I like to call it (see recent history, Miners strike, our current MP, etc. etc.), not "Boozer". I do hope you weren't suggesting a reference to alcohol abuse!!! Tell you what, play "Once more with feeling" by the Whispers on Janus (flip side of "Bingo") on the next available show (around 8:30 ish would be cool, I'm normally doing the ironing Sunday nights about that time!) and we'll say no more about accents, etc. Keep up the excellent work playing good music.

Yup, tuned in to this last Friday, good craic!! Gets the Bozaboy seal of approval. Just one bad point, you never mentioned "let's hear what's happening on those maple sprung dance floors", have you never heard of the Kev Roberts School of Obvious DJ-ing? Oh, that Brummie accent is quite good, where did you pick it up?
-
What? "get out ....... and let me FRY!!!!" Nearly Home Time!!!!

Boots in the States? Sure, why not? If a bootlegger pressed up a batch and they didn't sell, wouldn't he/she (are there any recorded instances of bootleggers being of the fairer sex? are they too honest for that trade?) have to get shut of them somewhere? the local "thrift" store? yup, it figures! By the way, I was in for the Billy Arnell, low bid, didn't get it, tried to check with the seller via Ebay's useless "contact" system, no joy. Decided not to raise the ante as you can't be sure. Did it go for a big price?
-
How many more copies of Eskew Reeder on Instant are there? It must have sold enough for a chart entry by now!!! - ditto- Ace Spectrum and "Sister James".
-
You know when you die? what happens to your record collection?
-
absolutely, "guest"! Hence my purchase of said machine mentioned above (notice I didn't give a plug to the manufacturers - you could find them if you wanted to) and the chemical formulae that I described. This, at least, will remove some of the "living" matter that will accumulate at the bottom of the groove. The key difference between the old "soap 'n' water" method and the vacuum one, is, at least the vacuum will draw away any gunk left "in suspension" on the surface after cleaning, and anyway, what's in the water and soap you're using to clean them? No, we could go too far with this, dust-free atmospheres, ambient temperatures, etc. but we should be at least protecting our "investments" (is that a dirty word?) and the legacy we have been lucky to accumulate, in the best way we can. Have I told you about my dream, if I won the lottery......?

... nail, head, spot on, Grant! The "fun" (and, of course, the exquisite pain) of Ebay, I believe, is wading through page after page of stuff (both ending soon and new today), trying to decipher what the seller means by "rare" or "northern" or even "soul" (or even more copies of Sister James!!! - everyone got one now? right, it's not "in demand" anymore!!), just in the vain hope that some soft bugger has listed the B side or skimped on the description to such a degree that other smart collectors wont spot it (yeh, right!). I mean, surely this is how everybody plays the great Ebay game? One final point, OK "business is business", but if I see another copy of Polly Brown's "Going up in a puff of smoke" in the R & B section, I swear, I'll scream. Anyone else seen any wierd entries in what could be termed "our" section?

Seriously ..... I am in the (long) process of re-cleaning all of my 45 collection having purchased a MkII Moth vacuum RCM (£250+ kit , £400 built). I have developed my own cleaning solution based on that used by the US Library of Congress (should be good then!), comprises 50% denatured alcohol, 50% triple de-ionised distilled water, plus a few drops of pure detergent and photographic wetting agent. This has helped no end rescuing some of the more grubby items BUT .... it won't cure so called "cue burn". As previous correspondents have pointed out, the key word is "burn", the massive amount of heat generated at the point where stylus meets vinyl (or styrene) means that anything less than an almost perfect contact will result in PERMANENT damage. The worse case of this would be the "cue burn" scenario, the regular placing of a stylus at or near the beginning of a disc (for cue-ing purposes). I've heard all sorts of tales about how this can be "cured", they all miss the basic point, once "burned" IT'S PERMANENT! Face it guys, replacement is the only real cure.

ooooops! forgot to login. It's Bozaboy and it's not funny, it's TRUE!!!! (or is it?) Linking the threads, there's another Frank Wilson issue on Ebay.co.uk as a "Buy it Now" for £110 !!!!!! That's it, I'm off, the whole bloody lot's gone (snooker) loopy!!! I mean, the world and his (soul) cat must have bought an issue copy, I wonder how long it will be before some daft bugger buys it? The clock's ticking ...........
-
He or She has also got a Dena Barnes stock listed. Anyone fancy a punt to see what you get? On the "other" subject, can I pass on my sincere thanks to the (gutter)sniper who outbid me on Little Jessie Junior of Dynamics demo with 10 seconds to go!!!!! Obviously, they can type quicker than me, or is it Broadband??? Finally, I don't tell my wife ANYTHING about my Ebay activities, it's safer that way.
-
Sure did!!! Thing was I can't remember the actual price I paid, but, no one actually came in and topped my bid, or even bid up to my proxy. So I could, in theory, have stayed in bed. But I wouldn't have slept.

Makes you wonder why US sellers on Ebay don't list the damn things so that the closing times are during the day in the UK/Europe. I've missed out on loads of stuff by "50 cents" or by an attack of the phantom nightbidders. Having said that, I was working away from home a couple of years ago and set the alarm clock in my hotel room for 2:30AM so I could top any bas***d who was bidding for a Johnny Moore on Jadan. Sad? Possibly.

Seen the recent "Robby Lawson" original starting bid, 99 cents? Seller (latindisc) was (allegedly) based in Columbia! Item withdrawn, spooky or what? Wonder how that particular Kyser original found it's way to the home of "Bogota Baby Powder"?
