Hi everyone. I have just come across an excellent quality copy of Skip Mahoney's, Janice. It is on a white label 12" single on 'Underworld records' matrix number '12 UNDY 1'. I have done a search and can't find anything about this label at all and definately no mention anywhere of this record being released on it. Does anyone have any info at all and if possible it's worth? I know it's a 12" but I think it is quite obscure.
  2. Thank you all for your comments, I will let you all know what it's like when i receive it. You're all superstars. Just to let you know that the 'B' side is 'malibu', is it a boot then? See you at Drax tomorrow night if you can make it.
  3. Hi fellahs, just got this on EBay for £11, took a chance really but it's a top tune anyway. Any notions on weather it's an original promo or not? Thanks in anticipation. Steve
  4. 'Mike Post Coalition - Afternoon on the Rhino'. This track has always baffled me. Why would someone take a huge orchestra into a studio to record a random track that was not a theme tune for any film or program that I am aware of, but just for the sake of it. Can you imagine being in the studio when the track was recorded? WOW! The track is so full of energy from start to finish. And what type of music is it? It wasn't made as a Northern Soul record as the term was little known when it was made, so why was it recorded and to what end, it can't have made much money on the commercial scene? All hail Mike Post. what was he thinking? Does anyone know the reason for this amazing record to have been recorded?
  5. Hi and thanks. I know for a fact that this IS the original press, it is on 'Motown natural resources', the re-press is on 'Motown' which was re-released some years after this release. Natural Resources was active in 1972 and 1973, then used again in 1976 for a Gaylord and Holiday album, then used again in 1978 and 1979 for reissues and compilation albums. The Natural Resources label is white with brown printing. "NATURAL RESOURCES" above the center hole on two lines. On the perimeter is the slogan "Natural Sounds For Natural People" in script.
  6. Hi y'all, Here is an album that I recieved this week after purchasing it off EBay for £2.50. What a bargain! There are at least 3 outstanding tracks on the album which include The Spinners, The Marvelettes and Smokey Robinson. But all of the tracks are ranging from very good to excellent. I was asked to upload the images of the album 'From the vaults' so that the forum could see it. so here are the images. The first 2 images are the back cover split in 2 and zoomed in so that you can see the details. The third image is the label. Maybe someone knows if any of the tracks were released as singles and how rare they are and what they would be worth. Thanks for looking.
  7. Just got the album through today and and definately the best £2.50 I've ever spent. I rate 3 of the tracks as monsters, The spinners, Marvelettes and Smokey Robinson. Mint condition too. Here are some scans of the album cover and one of the label. Maybe someone knows if some of the tracks on the album were eventually released on to 7" single? Hope you like the scans. The first image is of the full back cover. The second and third are 2 images of the back cover a bit closer in so that you can see the details a bit clearer. 4th is the label.
  8. On our way to the Torch one night to see 'Major Lance' (the one that was recorded) and the coach was stopped and raided by the boys in blue. Took us to some police station in the back of some god forsaken suburb, and held there for 4 hours. Searched everthing including 'Polo' packets to see if anything was hidden down the middle of of the mints, and they took apart 2 'Discotrons'. We were made to sit in a room till it was your turn to be searched and they wouldn't let you go to the toilet (for obvious reasons). They did find a few pills on the coach, but couldn't find who's they were. One funny part that I remember was that when the squad jumped on the coach, one guy was so shocked, he let go of his cigarette and it went down the back of the guy in the seat in front of him, causing him to jump up and down shouting in pain . No arrests were made and we still got to the Torch in time to see the Major's show. AWESOME TIMES!!!!
  9. heheh! yes, as you can see the one I have the sticker is off centre in the middle, but it has never come off. may have a true original here then, the only one that has ramained in one piece
  10. Nice one Steve, looks like I bagged myself a bargain then
  11. Me neither mate, top times at your flat with the 'Dog laid a log' scenario Me and the wife are ok, 21 years now mate, 3 kids 14, 16 and 21. F**k me, that makes me feel old. What about you? did you and Diane last much after you moved down south? Lost touch with you really mate, love to rekindle the flame of good friendship. I'm on the scene again playing out and I'm loving it mate. Playing at Drax in 2 weeks and played in Notts a couple of weeks ago, went down a storm. Money's shite, but the feeling is worth the loss. Keep in touch matey.
  12. Yes I know about the cover version by Tommy Hunt, but even the original version of this by Roy Hamilton was far bigger at the Casino than this version. I suppose at the time it was a big tune even though it was a cover, but nowhere near as good as the real thing. and why does it say 'Cracked up over you' instead of 'Cracking up over you'?, the Silly Billies!
  13. Just rumaging through a drawer and found this. Does anyone remember them and did you get one?

heheh! not yet mate, suprized I lived past 30 to be honest with all the happy pills at the nighters
  15. Why would you think that 'Cracked up.... by Tommy Hunt' was number one as apposed to the original version by Danny White? Wierd?? And what about 'Get out'? Tommy Hunt again, why not Harold Melvin?. This get's curiouser and curiouser '/,.'[=,;@:['><:[+- Can't speak too loud though, Tommy only lives down the road from me shhhhhhhh!!!!!

That's beautiful. I think mine would have to be 'Time will pass you by' The lyrics are amazing and warn you that life is too short, so 'do what you gotta do' (Four tops), 'Before it's too late' (Jackie Day).
  17. Top tune Ian, I remember you playing that at Cleethorpes. Funny, the title just came into my head for some reason so I thought I'd have a look for one, and a Google link brought me back to here, Ah well, all roads lead to soul Source. A bit out of my price range though if it's going for a ton.
  18. Hi Mike, The one I have is the UK Probe (Hayes, Middlesex) release which doesn't have TOYMU on either.
  19. Being a Leeds resident in those days I obviously went to this event. You're right, it was a s**thole, and it was dirty, but the turnout was amazing and probably the biggest event in Europe at that time. The live acts were excellent although the sound wasn't and there was no dancefloor as such if I remember rightly. But all in all, a good event and a great lineup.
  20. Great tune, and what about 'My name is Michael'? I think every track on the album is excellent and very atmospheric and there is a story to the whole album. Definately Motown at it's finest (disco) hour. I have listened to the whole album over and over through the years and it still makes me close my eyes and imagine what's happening thoughout the tracks. Even the slow tempo 'Poor Charlotte' is amazing. Overall a stunning piece of musicology and anyone who hasn't heard the album should strive to find a copy immediately. 10/10. Here is one on EBay and there are loads on there, Treat yourselves to some awe inspiring music. City of angels If you buy one and haven't heard it yet, listen to it and let me know your thoughts on this thread. If there is any justice, the thread should run for years.
  21. Thanks for that, I used to go to the casino and the Mecca round about the same time so that's where the confusion might be. The Oveture track is a monster inst' and def should be getting played again. I absolutely adore the strings section in it, amazing! When I listened to it today after probably 20 years, the hairs on the back of my neck literally stood on end. Top feeling that. Has the Chuck Jackson track ever been played out does anyone know? and if so where and how big it was?
  22. see if that works. Seems to be only playing the first bit for me but it's a 5.5MB upload? If that doesn't work try this. Chuck Jackson - Just a little tear
  23. I'll try to upload a sound byte, not too sure how to though as this PC is pants just_a_little_tear.mp3

  25. Forgot about this one, or 6 . In the Torch days, after going there the week before, I was looking through a record shop in Leeds (OK, not a junk shop I know) and found 6 copies of 'The Shakers - One wonderful moment' on US import for 50p each. Took them to the Torch that next week and sold them all for £30 each. It was an in demand tune then. Damn good return and £180 in those days was like £5000 now. PUKKA!!!!!
