Leeds Central
Yes Fred I remember most if not all of those you have named. Unfortunately some are no longer with us, but quite a few are and a few of them come to the alldayers. (Ian) Charlie Fineberg, Mary Kenworthy, to name a couple. I also know that John Rhodes is still about and Rob Hirst too, as I sold a record to him a few months ago, I recognised the name and wrote asking him if he was the same Rob Hirst that went to the Central in the 70s, and his reply was, "yes it is, and you could have cleaned the record before you sent it" . I'm pretty positive that Chris Jenkinson is still with us too. I'm sure someone on here will fill us in on the rest. Oh and Eric Smith is still around, he came into where I worked once for some Boiler parts, he's now (or was) working as a fitter. Steve

Framing Records - Does Anyone Do This Or Had It Done?
It's really easy Jamie, Just buy a frame the size that you want (Charity shops always have em, and cheap) Take the back off and situate the records, flyers ect where you want them to be on the glass, then put the back back on. The records should hold in place due to the pressure of the back onto the them, maybe use a little adhesive or blue tack to hold the flyers in place. Remember you can always take the back off again and adjust the layout if you're not happy with it. Also it's a good idea to find a nice colour piece of card as the backing for the records, flyers. Hope that helps. Steve

Gone With The Wind: Best Version?
Think they're are both as good as each other, and as said above, the inst on the B side of the Rita Kent release is excellent.

A Teaser?
I know that there are a lot of SS'ers that don't like albums, and I also know that many don't like bootlegs/re-releases, but given the option, would you rather buy the boot/re-release of a tune that you're looking for, or an original album that the track is on? giving that you couldn't afford an original 7".

Prelude Label
Excellent label though if you like non cheesy Disco/Soul

Very big Jazz/Funk tune in the 80s, have the 12" and the album.

Prelude Label
I was wondering if this label was an early incarnation of the famous (and amazing) 'Prelude' records that turned out Disco and Soul in the 70s/80s?

Acetates, Emi Discs, Or Bootlegs?

Acetates, Emi Discs, Or Bootlegs?
Yes I have actually recorded records myself and been to the cutting plant to watch the acetate being cut albeit a 12" acetate. Really interesting to watch, and before they cut the acetate they look at the tracks through a VERY powerful magnifying glass so that they can make sure that the grooves don't touch each other which would cause the record to skip. When they have actually cut the acetate, the engineer asked what we wanted putting on the runout groove, and we watched him physically scratch in the wording. Amazing to see. Also I have a framed 7" original acetate copy of 'Jocelyn Brown - Somebody elses guy' which came with the info sheet from 'Island' records.

Acetates, Emi Discs, Or Bootlegs?
"OK, so you mean 'bootlegs on acetate discs' rather than 'Emidiscs'." Yes sorry that's what I meant and I should have made it more clear from the onset.

Acetates, Emi Discs, Or Bootlegs?
I haven't had this conversation on here before Roburt???

Acetates, Emi Discs, Or Bootlegs?
Original pressing plant Emidisc I would say: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Northern-Soul-Linda-Lyndell-Polydor-Acetate-One-Off-British-Original-/380543225343?pt=UK_Records&hash=item589a24cdff and obviously not: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Northern-Soul-Velvet-Satins-Nothin-Can-Compare-To-You-Acetate-/300841175802?pt=UK_Records&hash=item460b880afa Although the second one isn't an Emidisc it is being sold as an acetate but is obviously a bootleg on an acetate disc.

Acetates, Emi Discs, Or Bootlegs?
Yes I understand that, but legit acetates come from record pressing plants, whereas illegal ones 'bootlegs' don't, and are pressed for the purpose stated above. I know at least 1 prominant DJ that had an Emidisc machine who used to press Emidiscs and make a smallfortune out of selling them.

Acetates, Emi Discs, Or Bootlegs?
It has long angered me that sellers advertise Emidiscs as acetates? There is a huge difference am I correct? In my experience I have always thought that an acetate is the disc that that is cut after a recording has been recorded to press the actual records from or a similar thing. Whereas Emidiscs where made by various DJs etc. with the correct equipment (Emidisc machine) to copy valuable records that either they couldn't get the original pressing of, or with the intention to sell them on, Bootleggers in essence. Usually the illegal pressings (Emidiscs) will have a different record by different artists on both sides, whereas legit Acetates from a pressing plant will have the intended records by the intended artist on both A and B sides, and sometimes are single sided. I think it's only fair that the sellers claiming that they are selling Acetates and are obviously selling illegal pressings should state that fact so as not to confuse or pull the wool. I have also noticed that some legit acetates bear the name 'Emidisc' but it is quite easy to tell an original acetate from a bootlegged Emidisc, from the track listings. What do you think?

Any Info On Kim Weston Uk Tour
Last time she was in the UK I saw her at 'HiFi' club in Leeds and as Ruburt says, her voice wasn't in good shape at the time, but she did try bless her, and she did manage to hit a high note or two. Well worth seeing anyway.

Leeds Central
MMM?? Coffee bar opposite the ABC? I seem to remember it being under a different name too, BUT! This is a photo taken at around that time, look at the name above the building where I think we all mean. It says it was called 'The Ritz' but to be honest, that name doesn't ring any bells with me. *Click on photo to enlarge*

The Marvelettes How Rare Is This
yeah I think I started the previous topic about buying 'Only your love' on an albums and asked if it had been released on a single. The outcome was that the seller above (also on here) had a copy of the ep and decided to list it. IN answer to your original question, it's s**t rare!

Ebay And Bootlegs, What Can Be Done?
Maybe an idea would be to suggest to ebay that they employ someone in the know from on here to be able to spot the illegitimate records on sale? I am sure even I could spot at least a thousand of them in about an hour, but get someone like JM on the job and it's a good 'n'.
