Cookie Jackson Original Or Boot ?
Never booted but there are a couple of reissues going around.

Mary Love - Bitter Into Sweet
You can be Jewish and Jamaican you know...

Mary Love - Bitter Into Sweet
1965 according to the discography for the label. The label had no connection to the US one, simply being named after the owners - Rita and Benny King who I think were Jamaican and ran R&B Records (Rita&Benny, handy that...) and other ska labels.

Leo Price "hey Now Baby" - Up Down Records
I got one for £250, which I would regard as average price...as opposed to Leo Price.

Leo Price "hey Now Baby" - Up Down Records
The Hull version is a great RnB record and has a much better sound quality to it if you listen to them back to back on a home system. the Up-Down version does the job over a club PA however and also warns any shipping in the area of possible hazards.

Soul Trousers
I just used the trousers from the old suits my granddad gave to me - nice and baggy and more importantly - didn't cost me a penny although the pockets were full of rolling tobacco for some reason.

Happy Days And Looking Back Regrets
Met a guy I had been at school with in about 1983/4 and he gave me all his Northern stuff as 'the scene ended with Wigan' - a common feeling at that time when you met old soulies ('old' as in over 21...). Despite me telling him about Stafford, 100 Club, Morecambe etc, he wasn't convinced and passed his collection over to me since I was deluded enough to think there was still something in it. Nothing amazing but nice copies of Rita Dacosta, Tainted Love, Patti and the Emblems and lots of boots of the big stompers of the time. Sold them all off over the years to feed my 60s newies addiction - something else he thought was a sure sign of me being a sad case!

Early Casino Sounds?
Well, thank you gentlemen!

Early Casino Sounds?
There's probably already a thread on this but I can't find it, but what sort of stuff would have been played at the Wigan Casino in the very early days, say September 1973 to June 1974?

Value - Eddie Jasper Daye
Yup, went for £400 too. Could have asked for more but it sold quick and I was happy as was the buyer I imagine.

Irene And The Scott's - I'm Stuck On My Baby
I've met one of the bored middle aged men. He went to buy my mate's restored Lambretta Li150 and when he was being informed about oil mixtures, spark plug gaps, tyre pressures, etc replied "no, I won't ride it, it's going to be the centrepiece in my living room". The conversation then turned to soul music, when he found out I was a collector he asked me if I had 'anything nice looking' - not for playing but for framing and putting on the wall!

So around £400 for a nice copy is about right. May be in sales soon then...

All now on hold.

And the 4 Bars....Lean on Me. Selling one for a friend soon but he doesn't know what is a reasonable value. Any ideas? I would say £400...

Patti & Emblems/leo Price/frank Beverley
These are all conservatively graded at VG+ which means they play great, but are not flawless! Patti and the Emblems - It's The Little Things You Do - Congress 'red star' W/D with date stamp on label (VG+). Very slight edge warp is the only real flaw to this copy. It doesn't affect play and is hardly noticeable but it's there. £175. Leo Price - Hey Now Baby - Hull. Has writing on label. (VG+). No, sorry it's not the 'Up Down' version. Rather this is the earlier 'non-horns' recording. Still great R&B, still rare. £150. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHbdeWrOldk Frank Beverly Sassy W/D - If That's What You Wanted. (VG+) B side is 'Love your pain goes deep'. Visible scratch marks which do not affect play. Label is clean without writing. £300. Postage is free in the UK, but signed for/insured is extra. Outside the UK, get in touch.

I'm Catching On... seen a few about recently - any left? Will pay £300-£350 for a VG+/EX copy. Thanks!

Argie And The Arketts
Don't recall ever hearing it at Stafford, I'm sure it was early 80s when I first heard it, however.

Argie And The Arketts
You're The Guy...When was this first played at a Northern event? Wonderful record and very atmospheric but it seems a bit slow for mid-70s tastes but I guess not everything was a full-blown stomper then.
-
Mary Love. Lay This Burden Down
$230! Something of a price hike since the last time I bought one for a tenner. Has it become harder to find or more in-demand then?

Northern Soul 70's Fashion
Has anyone mentioned army trousers? The soul boys at my school all wore them in the late 70s along with black V-neck jumpers.

Prowlin' Records Discography?
OK, so the list is now updated. I suspect that the label released material intermittently from the early 60s until the 70s with no real continuity in numbers to help collectors, but a lot of nice records to have nevertheless and a great design too - especially for all the cat fans out there! Thanks for all the contributions so far.

Prowlin' Records Discography?
On Zeke Strong: (adapted from entry on Sir Shambling's site) www.sirshambling.com '[Ezekiel] Zeke Strong (born in 1923 at Isabella, OK [Other source says October 21, 1921]) was one of the mainstays of the Los Angeles R & B scene in the 50s and 60s. Bandleader, saxophonist, writer, producer, label owner and occasional vocalist — he covered all the musical bases. He put out two 45s by Juanita Strong (wife? daughter?) in the early 60s on his own Progress concern and they should be rather better regarded and familiar to fans than they are now. Listen My Heart Will Be Crying is a strong stop-go blues ballad with a willing and flexible vocal from Juanita. Wonderful big band support from Zeke’s players — as a sax man himself he could be relied on to put a big fat horn chart together. Excellent guitar solo too. Listen I’ve Seen You Somewhere Before is a similarly paced and styled number, benefiting from some good background harmonies. Zeke Strong passed away in May [28th] 2003 in Phoenix, AR.' He was also involved with the Celeste record label best known for its Ray Agee 45s; he seems to have been the arranger and leader of the backing band as well as co-label owner. I find the story of these little Los Angeles labels fascinating. I also tried to do an Angeltown records discography some time ago also but it's extremely hard finding any information about a lot of these labels, artists, chart positions (if any). Not actually being from or in LA doesn't help either.
