Deep Soul - Label Resurrected with Two New 45s

Deep Soul - Label Resurrected with Two New 45s

The end of the just gone month saw the first release from Ace Records timely resurrection of the 'Deep Soul' label.

The below quote lifted from the press blurb sums it all up quite well...

'The label will continue to champion deep soul sides, bringing them to the public’s attention and making them available to fans who may have missed their original issue.'

The first release sees a double header featuring tracks from Jaibi and The Hesitations

 1. You Got Me - Jaibi
  2. Gotta Find A Way - The Hesitations

‘You Got Me’ is by Larry Banks’ second wife Jaibi. Dave Godin included this on the very first “Deep Soul Treasures” comp and said the below of it...

'Without Jaibi’s magnificent recording ‘You Got Me’ my life would have been less, and certainly she will always have a special place in my heart and memory because of it'

This track is the same version as the 45 but with added, very subtle, female backing vocals.

The flip has the vinyl debut of the Hesitations’ sublime vocal group sound ‘Gotta Find A Way’

Can listen to both sides Deep Soul 01 below

 1. You Got Me - Jaibi

  2. Gotta Find A Way -The Hesitations

Also as part of the launch and now out and about is the second 'Deep Soul' 45 release again featuring stand up tracks from two artists

  1. Deep Shadows - Little Ann
  2. Stay Away - The Turn Arounds

Deep Shadows by Little Ann is an unissued Dave Hamilton produced master from Detroit which was recorded around 1967.

It has grown steadily in the rare soul public's esteem ever since its CD debut in 1998. It has been covered by new bands and features in a very atmospheric Jordan trainers internet ad in the USA.

Kent have only just discovered that the magnificent 1966-recorded ballad Stay Away was by Los Angeles vocal group the Turn Arounds. It was recorded in Atlanta but has the feel of a classic mid 60s Chess-recorded ballad; no doubt exactly what the group was trying to achieve at the time.

Can listen to both sides of Deep Soul 02 here

  1. Deep Shadows - Little Ann

  2. Stay Away - The Turn Arounds
