Russ was the founder and the resident DJ of the World-famous 'Wigan Casino' Northern Soul nights began on the 23rd of September 1973 and ran until 6th of December 1981

Young people from all over the UK regularly attended Wigan Casino to hear Northern Soul artists and to dance. Throughout the duration over one million people attended events at the Empress Suit, the Beach Comber, and Mr M's oldies room.

In addition to the hearing amazing Soul records, live acts played at Wigan Casino including

In 1978 American music magazine Billboard voted Wigan Casino "The Best Disco in the World", ahead of New York City's Studio 54.
