Thanks Ricky Simon

We chose The Griffin as the venue for our return to the scene, Sue Vickers and myself that is. Many good memories of this venue, our last visit was for Sally Hills' birthday celebrations, a few years ago now. Venue wise it has been refurbished in a bright scheme that adds light to this once dark venue. Paul, Andy and the rest of the crew put a lot of effort in and although a little under-attended on Friday it certainly picked up on Saturday evening especially for us as some great pals turned up to support the event! Shoutouts to Sally Hill, always gorgeous and always a pleasure to be around, lovely Ann-Marie Mayhew with her quiet (mostly) demeanour and razor sharp wit, great friend and DJ legend Tony Perrot, the charming Antonia Berrita and all the other attendees and crew!

Across the board events are never going to please everyone all of the time, that said the mix of tunes was a good one with spins from Mark Stone, Andy Tolley, Paul Cater and Lil Ian, plenty of Northern Oldies, newies galore and a tasteful selection of upbeat modern, a veritable cornucopia of eclectic tunes, something for everyone especially as quite a number attended who we'll describe here as less than hardcore veterans who were kept busy on the floor in between the Northern tunes, gotta try to cater for everyone! (see what I did there?) Highlights for me were certainly Pauls' masterstroke of spinning one of Lee Vowles acetates, the legendary 'Ozzy Sands Price Of Pain' ripped from the movie 'Blue Juice'(of course it's Edwin Starr) a tune unsuitable for OVO events so a real treat, especially combined with Roscoe Shelton 'You're the dream' another of Lees' choices as musical advisor for the cult film, so those two particularly made the weekend for me. As ever with The Griffin the legend that IS Mr Vowles was being remembered all over the place as a lot of his associates had attended the event!

To summarise, we thoroughly enjoyed the weekend plus the chillout session on Sunday at Ginger and Joes, again, so good to see old pals and meet new ones, lot of familiar local faces that turned out to support this local event! Thanks to all the crew and attendees that made this a great weekend for us, hopefully this event will be repeated, we will certainly be supporting the event going for'ard!
