I remember back in the early 70s supermarkets had soul imports for summat like 10p each. I used to work at tescos when I was about 16 and fully remember copies of The Vontastics - We can work It Out (St Lawrence) being in one of those mesh metal baskets with a load of other stuff on Philips, Mercury etc etc. Another that they seem to have had a lot of was The Esquires "And Get Away" on Bunky.

Stuff was all over the place, markets stalls etc.

Talk to John Anderson about the records he had in quantity (in the 100's) :- Caressors, Ringleaders , Billy Hambric, Towana on "Romark" etc. Then look at what people used to buy for a £1 - £3 back in the day, talk to people like Blue Max & the quantity of stock he had from places like Global, back in the day e.g. Vonettes, Edwin Starr - You're My Mellow. Add to this the U.S. dealers that sent over 5,000 copies of Epitome of Sound, and all the other dealers, importers etc etc, then what does surprise me is that more records don't turn up in Junk stores over here!!

My brother in law found 7 copies of L. Allen "cant we talk it over" on the green label original all in mint condition in the '70's in Edinburgh. He wishes he had kept hold of them though, he sold them cheap.

surely john anderson must have had 1000s of records go through his hands what he considered not really good enough for the scene,but have re-emerged in later years to become raritys. the joann courcy record my mate had was unknown at the time , not 100% but i think he sold it to ian clark at yate
