Good afternoon ya'll,

Can anyone help me?

I'm fairly new to Northern (I come from a Mod/Funk background)

I also start a local community based Radio SHow (based in Gloucester) next month. The show will be based around Funk, however I'll also be playing Soul - especially crossover. I'm not just playing records - cause I want to spread some knowledge about the recording/people who made these wonderful sounds.

I'm after as much info on The great Senator as possible - Can anybody help?

Simon

Only know his "Do You Love Me"on Shagg (I think), courtesy of Ion.

His "Call The Sheriff" on Whurley Burley is also a brill dancer IMO.

There's lots of info about him (plus a photo) in the booklet to Grapevine's great "Northern Soul Of New Orleans" CD from 2003.

I know he produced a fair few classics in his time including Norma Jean's - I've taken over - Hep' Me, Didn't he also do Dennis Lee & the Notables - Sunday afternoon? some of Richard Caiton's stuff etc etc

70's John

here's a photo from a NO funk compilation

Oh yeah, by the way, his nickname was "Shagg" and he owned the label with the same name (responsible for Guitar Ray etc.). He also had the Hep'Me and loads other labels and recorded Charles Brimmer for Chelsea.
