Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area but....

I bought a record off some idiot who doesn't know how to package records and the 45" is so warped it's a joke. Add to that it may have been affected by the heat that the US is currently suffering from.

My question is, does anyone have a nifty idea of how you can flatten a warped 45"?

The safest way (e.g. not using people's homemade methods) is to use a dewarping machine (I think there are a few different kinds). In the US there are some record stores that have them that will dewarp a record for a fee. I don't know if there are UK stores that do this. If the record is heat damaged though you can't fix the actual heat damage.

I know someone who has a store in Bellevue, Nebraska (Omaha) that has a record dewarper, but it only works on LPs. I haven't seen one for 45s, but if anyone has seen one, let me know!

You can put 45s in the same machine probably, it just isn't as effective

not worth it imo. I know a flattening in an oven expert and send him some expensive records with mixed results. Some became more playable, some because totally unplayable.

what about the one where you place the record bewteen two sheets of glass and leave it in the sun? mind you wouldnt work in this country

wouldnt placing a 45 under a heavy weight flatten it over time?

it's so hit or miss really, i used the oven & two sheets of glass method for years & had maybe a 60% success rate. sunshine sucks because you can't regulate the heat. oven is more accurate but can vary even from record to record & thickness of vinyl etc. you'll never get the warp out completely in my experience, even when you "pack" the record between the glass to counter for the raised label. also if the warp plays through but is just annoying you asthetically then just leave it alone. putting it under weight without heat might work but will take ages & works even less with 45s than LPs. once i had heated the warped record i would leave it under weight to cool for a few days to help the set the warp reversal but ultimately the best solution is to just not buy warped records

is it a slow wave across the entire record or a sharp crease in the record. If it's the first case, you should definitely send it to someone with a dewarper machine, it will probably fix it.
