Does any one know who the artist Angel Face is, who recorded with Frank Motley on Big Town and Hollywood labels + a Okeh release and Specialty release and the "DC" release 'Listen Baby' in '59, theres speculation that this could have been Jackie Shane, can anyone help?

Nope, no idea, sold the DC 45 a few years back, and pretty sure I've got the Big Town 45 knocking about somewhere, but know nothing about the artist whatsoever.

Which comp did I put 'Listen baby' on Callum...was it a Modculture CD swap one ?

In "Blues & Rhythm" 83 and 84 is the definitive article on Frank Motley.

Angel Face is first mentioned as appearing as the new vocalist around '53. He was featured vocalist on the Gem release "Baby it's Warm Outside" b/w Jimmy Crawford doing "J.C.'s Theme".

There was an Okeh 7071 release in '56 in his own name, "I'm Gonna Stay In Love" written by Jimmy Crawford.

I'm not a Blues expert, and Jay Bruder who wrote the article did not know who Angel Face was, but maybe someone might be able to confirm or not if Jimmy Crawford had an alias.

John

theres some speculation that Angel Face and Jackie Shane are the same artist, i know all the releases by Angel Face, the last, i think on Specialty in '59 then disappeared, John, you say him, Jackie Shane was a man too, yet the voices sound very similar dont you think? well, thanks anyway guys
