Nice one Simon bit of aNorth Bay fancier myself.You're spot on with Gene Mcfaddon and the late Jqhn Whitehead being member's of Talk of the Town + John Beatty or James Knight. Also recorded as The Epsilon's on Atco Stax and Triple G record's together with Lloyd Parks (later of Harold Melvin & the Bluenotes) Think the B side of The Family's 45 ("Nation Time'') may be an embryonic "We're on the right track'' with that Norman Harris guitar. Would love more info on this cool Philly label too.

Label owned by Gamble & Huff I understand. Quite an embryonic PIR label then? Just remembered I have the Tony Cummings Philly Book from way back. Will have a look and see what it comes up with.

A good read Rich. Can also recommend "A House on Fire" by John A Jackson for load's of info on early G&H label's tho' not authorised by the dynamic duo.

I believe Kenny Gamble is writing his own version of the Philly sound. Bet he's got a right good tale to tell!!

I know North Bay was out of Phila. PA but not sure of the year. 310 & 311 was The Love Brothers & Ike Douglas Choir. 306 & 310 I do not have the flip titles either. Are your discographies on a Disc and is it available?

No one ever mentions the flip of Little Dooley-it's equally as good and has a slightly Northern tinge! If it was rare it would be very expensive instead of a tenner or less.

I've got the Vibrations singles above, and I've never been sure - is it a different group to the one known best for 'Cause You're Mine & Surprise Party?

Though never major hitmakers, the Los Angeles-based Vibrations were consistent performers through the '60s. The lineup included James Johnson, Carl Fisher, Richard Owens, Dave Govan, and Don Bradley. They began recording as the Jayhawks, then scored a couple of novelty hits performing as the Marathons. Neither "The Watusi" nor "Peanut Butter" were particularly triumphant, but each managed to chart in both the R&B and pop markets. When they became the Vibrations in 1964, they gradually turned to more romantic material, although their first hit, "My Girl Sloopy," was closer to their previous cuts. They had their last brush with glory in 1968 with the Okeh song "Love in Them There Hills." Although Richard Owens was briefly in the Temptations in 1971, the Vibrations continued on until 1976, closing out their career as a nightclub act.

Vibrations also on NEPTUNE. Since all were obviously Gamble & Huff labels would assume the Vibrations are the same group.

So IS North Bay a G&H label?

Judging by the sparks flying re. PIR records on another thread - wouldn't the detractors of PIR be better in here as regards to G&H output????

Mmm I'd stick my neck out and say the Red Ruby .. cant find any other releases on the label and never seen one for sale.... Just seen Dooleys name up on some musicians forum in Holland?? Seem to recall a few old soulies relocating to Holland and other parts of europe Edwin Starr for ex.

All one in the same man apparently. The Red Ruby release has a New York address on it which confirms what Dek says. That plus the Bobby Martin production credit all says Red Ruby is the first release I reckon.
