Going there myself in a couple of months, was going to ask the same question! There was a thread on here re Carolina shops and am sure there were a few in Charlotte, don't have any reports on how useful they were though.

Assuming you haven't already tried this route - whilst browsing I stuck 'Records Stores North Carolina' into Google and this site below was one of many detailed in reply.

wax museum was pretty good for me. got some nice local 45s and other soul pieces. did take me two days to go through the 45s though. LPs were just mediocre. did score some nice rap 12s as well.

my biggest scores (all LPs though) was at Manifest. must have bought close to 60 LPs in two trips there. dont think i spent more than $5 on any of them. lots of private press stuff. very cool.

also got some nice pieces at two of the thrifts (two trips within 4 days and i saw totally different pieces in the bins) are the Value Village and the Community Thrift. theyre right next to each other in the same shopping center.

Blimey Wax Museum (owned by Chris Beachley I think) there's a name from the past.

I recall working my way steadily through that store in 1990.

Wading waist high through boxes and boxes of unsold store stock that he kept in numerous back rooms. Floor to ceiling.

Think it took us probably 3 days to go through everything we were allowed to.

Just sorta assumed it closed down years ago as the name never seems to crop up in conversations anymore.

Beachley's place still there but think very wise and he keeps things close to his chest. I tried to use Chris Beachley as one of my research contacts for my book on beach and related stuff, as I knew of his long local history and reputation in beach music and collaboration with Greg Haynes etc for Heeey Baby Days. However I was surprised and a bit disappointed in that he wasn't very forthcoming with me. Maybe a wariness of folks UK-side after decades of vinyl rape and pillage (my intentions were genuinely honorable!)? Has a website, contact details there. The site itself doesn't look like much, he seems to mainly cater for the 'current' beach music trade etc which we would be less interested in, but I know some very nice stuff did come from tem a few years back and might still deal in some nice bits. He knows the score value-wise these days; after all they did / do specialise in rare beach for the local beach music scene. Also there's the wax museum label reissue side of things they are involved in too.

I'm looking at this from a sixties angle though Malayka, can't comment on things if you are after later stuff etc. Think I might do a covert job if I pay them a visit when I go to NC!
