Joe Hicks & Johnny Watson

I've been meaning to mention this for years, but every time I play Joe Hicks - Don't it make you feel funky, I keep hearing Johnny "Guitar" Watson singing the backing vocals, plus the guitar riff that runs through the song sounds like his kind of thing. I believe Johnny Watson went to live in LA when he was a kid but can't find any links between the two of them. Does anyone hear what I hear, or know of any links between them or the producer.
