Does anybody remember a soul cassette magazine affair in the early 1980's, where they interviewed people/dj's and chatted about the latest releases and state of soul music? I remember there was a 'phone in' interview on one of them and the individual said 'northern soul was dead' and I smartly stopped buying it. 

I think I vaguely recall but will have a look through the chest of memories in the loft to see if I can find and pull out anything. It does sound familiar 

I just found mine...clearing out old stuff and there they were interestingly. Plus some 1970's Blues and Soul magazines, two from 1974! Very interesting reading ha ha. Quite amusing really: -

There's a story about The Javells GNTS, and the number one British singles chart entry was: Hang on in there baby/Johnny Bristol.

Also this advertisement. Somebody mentioned to me recently that some all nighters were advertised by word of mouth and others in the press etc. And is that 'Sweet Sensation' of 'Sad Sweet Dreamer' fame?

It is they!!! but if you notice, they were on during the early session which was more chart type records, although predominantly soul.

I remember them appearing at Tiffanys in Hull the same night Showaddywaddy were on at Baileys. It was almost empty. We got to meet them in the dressing room. You know, compared to some stuff today, they were good! Full orchestra trying to get on the Stylists type scenario. Good songs. Alright, not stompers, nevertheless things like 'Hide away from the sun', was cool. Happy days.

I've still got some of the SOS cassettes, they featured a megamix by James Hamilton on each one of new releases, some seminal records on Westend etc
