Just finished reading the book

Page 39 refers "Like many kids growing up in Detroit the young Gordy had a soft spot for Clayton "Peg Leg" Bates, a one legged dancer whose leg was crudely amputated on his mothers kitchen table after an accident in a cotton field". Brilliant! would have loved to see him dancing to the Motown sounds.

He ran a niteclub up in the Catskills for many years. He also had his own orchestra (resident @ his club) & they were used on some recordings (Rene Bailey on B.B.D.) + he produced stuff that was released on his own label (Peg Leg Bates Records).
