Seem to think it was Paul Johnson from Bolton that siddled up to me at an all-nighter sometime in the nineties and said "You need this Derek" and handed me an Ohio Players album. It was taken home on approval and played several times. I convinced myself it was a monster in the making, a sorta cross between Ann Sexton "Gone too long" and some thing else I've forgotten. Came across it again last week and Mmmm isn't it amazing how the passage of time damps down your excitement levels. Then it was awesome now it's only average.
Ohio Players "The man that I am" found on the Capitol album 'The Ohio Players' (SM-11291), the one with green, red and black zig zag stripes on the front cover. Previously released as 'Observations in time' (ST-192). Damn does that mean I've got a re-issue! Oh the shame of it......
