++SOLD++ JOE KING - SPEAK ON UP - ACETATE - £125 - EX

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SU3u1Gc-UM

ANOTHER 1 OFF ACETATE I AQUIRED YEARS AGO WITH A GREAT STORY. A NOTE WHICH HAS BEEN PASSED ON WITH IT IS AS BELOW

Several of the backing musicians involved with the Harmonic Sounds label out of Columbus, Ohio also got a crack at their own releases. Joe King was a stalwart guitar player whose soulful approach to the instrument has left its fingerprints all over the demos found on the Prix label tapes. He was a creative and thoughtful songwriter and had a distinct, emotive voice, but as a performer preferred to stay in the background. King himself claims to have never performed live as a front man, but those who hear “Speak On Up” might find this hard to believe. He got his start playing professionally with drummer Lee Sykes and the Highlanders band, the house band at the Lemon Drop on High Street. King was hired by Price for session work, but was offered his own release because of his obvious talent. Like the Royal Esquires, he too was drafted before the release of his only single. Joe King returned a changed man, but continued to work intermittently as a guitarist, later joining the successful Columbus group and Westbound recording act the Crowd Pleasers for their rigorous mid-70s touring schedule.

This is an original demo acetate sourced from the Prix label owner Clem Price, and is both the released sides from the Prix label 45. The label address is Harmonic Sound Production 1482 Felix Drive which is a different address to what appears on the released Prix 45. Harmonic Sound Productions was the in house production company, the song was produced by the label owner and written by the artist. So it is a publishing demo as the address being different to the label address. This is a typical 7"acetate with a metal base and shellack coating
