A great bunch of cheaper end tunes up for grabs, right across the board, includes some great double siders for double bubble!
Happy to send additional images and sound files. PM any questions or to reserve.
Bobbie Smith – Walk on into my heart – American Arts 2 WD M- £30
(The 70s lookalike vinyl pressing)
Solomon Burke – Cry to me – Atlantic 2131 Ex £50
(Excellent mid paced big band style groover)
Drifters – Baby what I mean – Atlantic 2366 M- £15
(Who would have thought this 1950’s outfit would have evolved so much over their recording career to deliver this belter to the Northern dance scene. Haris stands up on neck tune)
Gene Chandler – After the laughter – Checker 1165 £20
(Like Solomon above, such a reliable male vocalist, always a bounciness to his output, great dancer with great backing. Ring wear on labels)
Gene Chandler – Nothing can stop me – Constellation 149 Ex £15
(Such a recognisable intro that allows just enough time to to make the dance floor. Right up, and yet another fabulous composition by GC. Tiniest edge lift, DNAP, small scratch at back end causing a couple of light clicks, hence price)
Freddie Waters – Singing a new song – Curtom 1952 M- £15
(Mellow mid-tempo dancer)
Bobby Hanna – Everybody needs love – Decca 455 M- £50
(Gorgeous dancer, penned by Jobette’s Holland and Whitfield. Not so common New Zealand solid centre Decca release)
Tillie Wow – Wanna tell you a thing or two / The sway – Donnie 703 M- £25
(Semi-known R&B influenced Northern 2 sider. Unusual stage name for a singer who recorded this 45 at the same recording session as Dave Charles did for the same label)
Johnny Dynamite – The night the angels cried – Minaret 141 WD M- £20
(I’ve only ever had one original copy. Here’s the pressing as a stop gap)
Joe Williams Lonely man – RCA 8775 WD Ex+ £20
(Earlier RCA release with the staple Northern style. Tick on top side)
Joe Williams Lonely man – RCA 8775 M- £20
(Ditto above, but a Black Stocker. Just detect the number 119 written in black on the top label)
(Always had a soft spot for this femme dancer with Betty’s lilting vocals elevating it to level of worthiness alongside other similar RCA output, specifically Beverly Ann, Susan Barrett, Peggy March and Laura Green)
Luke Day – Love line – Renfro 40 M- £20
(Cultured bongo driven mid 70s west coast dancer from the catalogue of the revered Anthony C. Renfro)
Ted Ford – You’re gonna need me – Seventy-Seven 2131 M- £40
(1970s re-release of the original on Sound Stage Seven. Classic northern soul dancer that’s £150 on the first release)
Jimmy Castor – Just you girl / Magic saxophone – Smash 2085 M- £40
(Lovely catchy mid-tempo dancer on the top side that demonstrates a softer side to Jimmy, backed with the more frantic ‘Magic Sax’. Drill hole, star stamp on top label, and tiniest edge lift DNAP)
Jack Harden – She’ll be back – Star Shot 3002 Ex £25
(Nice soul dancer that’s new to me, Canadian release that has a 60s Island feel to it, Jackie Edwards slightly speeded up. Slower flip written by Barrett Strong. X and pen line on top label
JJ Daniels – Mr. Lonesome – Sure-Shot 5017 Promo Ex £30
(Forceful vocals on this in-your-face dancer. Love this Texan label design)
