Sending cards & letters is still ok. Royal Mail are supposedly looking into a new system but will take a few days for them to set up.

We’re temporarily withdrawing existing services to the USA on Tuesday 26 August 2025.
We're planning for our USA postal delivery duties paid (PDDP) services, which meet new customs requirements, to be available to customers online and in Post Offices from Thursday 28 August 2025.

discogs are sending this newsletter out which has some important points

We understand you may have concerns about how tariffs and executive orders in the United States could impact your business on Discogs. Here’s everything we know about the situation so far.

US Tariffs Should Not Apply to Your Inventory on Discogs
Vinyl records, CDs, cassettes, and other recorded media should be exempt from any tariffs under US presidential executive order.

The executive order going into effect on August 29, 2025, removes a long-standing "de minimis" tariff exemption for most goods valued under USD $800. However, this change does not apply to "informational materials” like music media, which are still exempt from tariffs under US law 50 USC 1702(b)(3).

Simply put, music and informational media have always been exempt from tariffs and continue to be so at this time. This means neither sellers nor collectors on Discogs should be charged additional customs fees.

Be Prepared for Potential Delays and Complications
While music and informational media should be exempt, customs and postal carriers may experience delays or mistakes as they adjust to the new requirements. Many postal services have already announced that they are pausing all shipments to the US to give themselves time to prepare accordingly. Meanwhile, commercial carriers such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL Express are currently moving shipments into the US, but these options may come at a higher price than usual. We expect several changes over the coming weeks, and we’ll do our best to keep track of new information.

Recommendations for Smoother Processing
We can’t guarantee that everything will run smoothly with postal carriers or customs. However, we have a few recommendations that should help with the processing of your shipments into the US:

  • Provide clear descriptions. We strongly recommend including precise descriptions. For example, instead of “vinyl,” use "Informational Materials: phonograph (vinyl) record” as this phrase is more in line with the legal terminology.

  • Use the correct HS codes. Please use the appropriate Harmonized System (HS) codes, which can be found on the commercial receipt provided by Discogs. Here are the codes for the three most common media formats in Discogs’ Marketplace:

    • Vinyl Records: 8523.80.1000

    • CDs: 8523.49.2020

    • Cassettes: 8523.29.1000

You Choose How You Sell on Discogs
While we hope that you can feel confident knowing that music media should be exempt from US tariffs, we understand that you may want to avoid this tricky situation until there is more assurance that customs processes are working correctly. You always have control over where and how you ship, and Discogs has the tools to help:

Shipping Policies:  You can review and update your Shipping Policies at any time. If you’re unsure about how, we have resources to help you learn more.

Seller Terms: You can use your Seller Terms to inform customers about your postal carriers, shipping timelines, and other important details ahead of a purchase. We’ll Navigate This Together
Your success is incredibly important to us. We are closely monitoring this situation and will communicate any major changes that could affect you and your business. For more information and the latest updates, please check in with our complete guide:

Thank you for being a part of our seller community.

Sincerely,
Discogs
