I have just pulled THE VOLCANOS - A LADY'S MAN - ARCTIC out of a record box and only just noticed it is a one sided demo.

Why did they make one sided records ?

Mak you'll kick yourself it's so simple - it's so the dj's could only play the side that the record company wanted them to plug

It's the same principle that inspired Phil Spector to put inane and often tuneless instrumentals on the B side of Crystals and Ronettes records, so that DJs would have no choice but to focus on the side that he wanted them to play.

Mind you, the wheels came off that wagon in spectacular fashion when he inadvertently put "Unchained Melody" on the flip of the Righteous Brothers' "Hung On You". He was so angry that it was a hit that he refused to ever give the RB's any new songs for the remainder of their Philles contract, and had them record only standards instead.

Stupid git...
