The Marvin Gaye Some Kind Of Wonderful is not the same as the Soul Brothers Six, it is a different song altogether written by Goffin/King on the In The Groove LP. also done byThe Drifters earlier, so this may be the version your friend is thinking of.

Hi Mel, According to BMI the "Some Kind of Wonderful" you're friend is on about is indeed the one written by Goffin/King and has been recorded by Marvin, The Drifters, Jay & the Americans, Carole King, Little Eva, The Outsiders, probably others too....the Soul Brothers Six/Grand Funk was written/recorded by John Ellison and also done by Buddy Guy, Huey Lewis, Conway Twitty among others.....hope this helps Mel.
