A new album from The Temptations due in a months time, sadly another covers album but again produced by the legend that is Steve Harvey...

"Back to Front"

The Temptations record 12 Classics for their newest CD entitled "Back to Front," scheduled for release on New Door/Universal on September 18. Includes covers of "Hold On, I'm Coming" by Sam and Dave, "Wake Up Everybody" by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, "Don't Ask My Neighbor" by the Emotions and many more.

Release date September 18, 2007

They're looking the part and the addition of Bruce Williamson whose only around 30 may well be a master stroke, according to Steve Harvey he's tearing it up on their version of Barry White's Never Gonna Give You Up.

I can understand why they do this (to a degree) and I wish them well, but it has to be said that "The Temptations" is just a brand name and this kind of album sounds dull and predictable before I've even heard it.

No disrespect to any individuals but it's getting dangerously close to tribute bands singing karaoke favourites.

I daresay a few middle aged punters will pull the CD off the shelf at Virgin due to the name, but if the guys have real belief in their talent as a group, they should break out of The Temptations safety cocoon, (surely that's what it is now), and build their own reputations and fanbase. Mr Williamson wasn't even a glint is his father's eye when the real guys made the name. I think your right Paul, most Tempts fans see this as a tribute band now.

I am with you on this , Paul ......

It seems that it is too much like hard work for many artists , to produce original and creative work , and the easy route for them , is to release an album of cover versions .....

I doubt , despite the album containing outstanding versions of a Barry White track and other

" classics " - according to the publicity blurb - it will sell in sufficient numbers to those who once held The Temptations in their hearts ......
