May 4, 200817 yr Max----the one and only Johnny Walker on Radio Caroline---with his intro--"HE,S IN.....HE,S ON--brilliant Tony Coleby
May 4, 200817 yr "This Is Roger Twiggy Day, your thinner record spinner..." He was on Radio Caroline South, Max, you may not have got him in your neck of the woods. He's still going strong on BBC Radio Kent... ...or how about: "Don't you know, mommyo, this is your man - ROSKO!!!!" (Emperor Rosko) "Orft we jolly well go..." (Jimmy Young) "Sennnnnnn-sational" (Tony Blackburn) "This is your old mate Brian Matthew" (who's now your very old mate Brian Matthew...) I'll think of some more later....

May 4, 200817 yr Not so much for the catchphrases, Max, but I can recommend that you or anyone else interested in the days of Pirate Radio take a look at www.offshoreradio.co.uk - one of my favourite websites that I can easily get lost in for an hour or two at a time. The site lists just about every DJ who ever appeared on an important pirate station, and has lots of soundclips (some better than others) taken from actual 60s broadcasts of many of those DJs. The amount of info that they have on there is phenomenal and I seem to learn something new every time I look at it. For instance, trivia fans, did you know that when Johnnie Walker joined Radio England under his real name (Peter Dingley) he was rebranded as 'Johnnie Walker' because the station already had a set of jingles made up for a US DJ of that name! Check it out... TONE Edited May 4, 200817 yr by TONY ROUNCE

May 11, 200817 yr Hi Guys, slightly off thread this but does anyone have any old tapes of an old soul dj DAVE SIMMONS that had a soul show on Radio One on a Saturday night between FIVE and SIX THIRTY. May 12, 200817 yr ...an old soul dj DAVE SIMMONS that had a soul show on Radio One on a Saturday night between FIVE and SIX THIRTY.In the black music desert that was Radio One back then (is it the same today?), this was essential listening - I always enjoyed his hook-up with a U.S. station and it was on DS's show that I first heard Professor Longhair's BIG CHIEF (I'm pretty certain it was electric piano or organ-based, rather than piano, but I've never found a copy of this version)
i know it's not totally a soul orientated subject, but for a future project does anyone remember any of those old catch phrases used by the likes of alan freeman, tony blackburn etc.
