It was rereleased in 2000 by Universal so I assume so

my bad...it was 1999

Would have thought so as Motown is now a subsidary of Universal.

Mr Gordy sold off the company to MCA in the late 80's (from memory.)

But with all things copyright I guess it would depend on the individual contract.

I'm no expert but I'm sure some one on here will confirm or deny.
