I've been led to believe that Connie Austin was murdered after recording Ball of fire and that The Curtis Liggins Indication band died on the way to a gig.

In typical fashion I don't recall where I heard these things so I thought someone here might enlighten me as to whether either of these events are true.

Do you have both records ?

Probably Chinese Whispers.

The story I heard was that she murdered the record!

Joking apart... I never heard either tale!

And I know Marva Whitney's came later... but there's no comparison IMO.

Marva's version blinds it!

:D

Like Sean, I've never heard that story about Connie Austin before and I don't think much of note about Connie was contained in Kent's CD booklets on the King label releases Vols 1 & 2.

Connie's version of Ball of Fire is superior to Marva's ... but only just.

And don't forget the other side of the Connie Austin record , the stomping mover "She Made A Mistake".

Also begs the question, was Connie Austin related to the other King label artist of the time - and James Brown alumni - Leon Austin ... "the Mighty Burner" ???

In fact, the plot now thickens a little ... if you read this about Leon's allegedly violent disposition https://stepfatherofsoul.blogspot.com/2005/...-his-house.html

and his interesting background

https://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/lates...ciatedies.shtml

... maybe just maybe there is a connection between the two artists ??
