if your user name is showing in red in the members online bit

it means that your account is unvalidated

ie not a full member

During registration, the site requires that you supply a valid email address. This is important as you must validate your registration via an email. If your e-mail does not arrive, then on the member bar at the top of the page, there will be a link that will allow you to re-send the validation e-mail.
