Living in the East Midlands I'm surrounded by nostalgia events, having been to Ilkeston I've always thought these were not for me.

Now having seen the later year wigan thread its made me realise I haven't danced to well known oldies like Moses Dillard, Cashmeres, Del Tours, Vondelles etc for years, kind of whetted my appetite. Perhaps I'll hear sounds like this at Oldies nights - it might make a nice change.

I've had a look at nostalgia events lookbacks and wonder if they play anything other than say Major Lance YDWMNM, Frank Wilson, Tomangos, Alice Clarke etc. But I never see playlists posted - unless its for the back room

Why is this?

Do you chaps play oldies from say Stafford, Clifton Hall, later years Wigan? Or stick to the really tried and tested.

From my experience mate, the answer would be no, but having said that a venue

i attend in the East Midlands (to go in the backroom) Do tend to slip some

more shall we say Upfront tunes in

One week a well known DJ played a very Upfront spot in the Main Room and i

thought there been a fire. People running for the exits with there coats and

bags over there shoulders.

Probably thought they were in skeggy know what u mean though,when we first got into this music the vibe was going to places to hear something new,now if some people hear a tune they have never heard before the dummys out

couple of reasons why oldies nites dont put up playlist is one, a lot of people who attend these events dont come on this site due to the constant abuse e.g. dinasours , baggy trousered clowns etc.etc. two, why put up a playlist when youre going to get the same old " yawn" remarks.

Where was that? Just wondering how some of that set went down with the scooter crowd. I got threatened for playing Joanne Baker, Syl Johnson and the Fab Peps in the 80s at a VFM doo Paid well though. Having said that I'd guess the scooter crowd have moved on.

Not really any imagination in the sets Paul! Just played records I like & love dancing to. When I'm playing records out I think, if I like to dance to a record then it will get played!

I collect records I like first, love to dance in the front room or a dance floor second and play records out when asked simply as that.

Not really wanting to get into a "we're hard done by" kind of thread here as I was hoping to get something positive from the Nostalgia Scene. Perhaps I was too optimistic to expect really well known 60s oldies from the Casino and other venues to be on the playlists of East Mids nostalgia Djs; like Court Davis, Cairos, Martha Starr (Solution) Chrysler and Monarchs, Steve Mancha, James Dockery etc etc.

Oh well, I tried. I leave it there then.
