The Sheffield Telegram website recently featured a David Godin related news article titled "A True Man Of Soul", which included news both of a current exhibition (details appear to be a bit lacking though) and also a shout for contributions by the author of a forth coming biography that is close to completion. Preview follows, you can view the full article via the link below An exhibition celebrating Soul guru Dave Godin, who went on to run Sheffield’s Anvil Cinema, is on display at Henry’s cafe/bar on Cambridge Street. It is curated by Henry’s Soul Club DJ Stevlor as a precursor to a biography he is completing for publication next year. The exhibition features 20 front covers from iconic music magazine Blues & Soul, to which Dave contributed a bi-weekly column, record reviews and articles throughout the 1960s and early... ...been writing and researching this biography for over three years and now it’s nearing completion I’m putting out a call for anybody who knew Dave and who may like to contribute an anecdote about him. “He knew literally hundreds of people and I’m sure there are a few in Sheffield who would like to be involved. The distinctive clenched fist emblem has come to represent the Northern Soul genre for many - and it was born in Stoke-on-Trent. Chris Burton commissioned a man in Hartshill to create a logo and there the Keep The Faith emblem was born... After just 18 months, national newspaper headlines about drug-taking at the Torch, coupled with the local reaction, meant its licence was not renewed. Thrasher Jr In this memoir, a member of the Incredible Jades recalls the rise and experiences of the band over the course of one year in the late sixties-the group's amazing moment in the sun. Blurb The sixties gave rise to a whole new generation of music. Led by Barry Gordy’s Motown Records and Al Bell’s Stax Records, soul music was taking the nation by storm. Any rhythm and blues band worth its salt was playing their sounds. When the Incredible Jades formed in Arkansas in 1967, this music was the fuel for their inspiration.
