  2. hit and run pass on BBC Radio 2 remembers the Second Summer of Love – 20 years after the acid house scene exploded in the UK – with a season of programmes dedicated to Dance Music and a poll to find the greatest dance record of all time. From Saturday 21 June, Zoe Ball traces the evolution of the musical genre, from the early days of Northern Soul to the present day, in a three-part series, The Definitive History Of UK Dance Music. Now that the original ravers have grown up, perhaps settled down with children of their own, Radio 2 considers how today's music scene compares with a youth movement that burst out of the clubs and integrated itself into popular culture. In Acid House – The Next Generation, DJ Chris Coco speaks to ravers young and old – from promoters, musicians and DJs like Carl Cox and Dave Haslam, who helped kick-start a dance music revolution, to new kids on the block like New Young Pony Club and Klaxons (the Mercury-winning poster boys of "Nu Rave"). As contributors reminisce about their own Summers Of Love, Chris ponders the tricky question of how much information he should share with his own teenage son. And in Don't Start Me Talking About... Dance Music – the latest addition to Radio 2's oral history series – UK clubbers share their memories. A panel of dance music experts has drawn up a shortlist of 20 records which span the years and reflect their musical merit and importance in the narrative of UK dance music. Listeners can hear clips and vote for the tune that really gets them dancing at bbc.co.uk/radio2 from Friday 6 June. The voting closes at midnight on Saturday 14 June and Zoe Ball will reveal the results in a three-part series, The Greatest Dance Records Of All Time, beginning Tuesday 1 July. Notes to Editors For the shortlist of dance tracks, details of the selection criteria and the panel of music experts, please visit bbc.co.uk/radio2. Voting opens at 2.00pm on Friday 6 June and closes at 23.59 on Saturday 14 June. 17. VINTAGE VINYL FAIR&COLLECTOR'S SOCIAL - MANCHESTER, JUNE 8th Word of a new event occuring in Manchester this weekend. If can't get over to the east coast seaside weekender this could ease the pain Have to say a cracking idea and with a similar styled regular mid-week event recently, wonder could this style of event be something that are going to see more off in the future. Here's the blurb from Concourse records Thanks to Little Stevie for flagging it up This is a new event in Manchester, the first of which takes place on Sunday June 8th. It's a record fair in the daytime, with music carrying on until late. Dealers on the day besides me will include Adam Leaver, Music Temple (Brixton), Les Hare (King Bee's, Manchester), Adey Pearce (Costswold Records, Gloucester), Alex Jones (Bolton), Richie (Heavy Rotation, London), Chris McBride (Liverpool), Skip (The Record Room, Nottingham) and more - so expect to find a wide range of quality stuff up for grabs across all genres of black music. Doors open at Midday and the fair runs until 6pm or so, then there's music until about midnight from Adam, myself and special guest Dave Ripolles. If you like soul and you've not heard Dave play out before, I'd recommend a visit for that reason alone. The venue is upstairs at the King's Arms, 11 Bloom Street, Manchester M3 6AN (an excellent independent pub only a short walk from Deansgate, fine ales available in the bar downstairs). Trades are more than welcome, so feel free to bring a box down. For any further info, just get in touch. link to original news http://www.concourserecords.com link to forum thread

  24. Many thanks to member pottsy for flagging this up in the Box forum here on soul source. It's from the Billy Nunn website and just one page of what is a fairly extensive decent soul site. As the title of this piece says the page flagged up concerns itself with the Mo Do label. While last years Daptone releases of Bob and Gene Lp and 45 brought the spotlight onto this label, its still worth a shout as its just one of those great informative info page's that simply just deserves a bit of a shout about. A couple of clips and link below, as said the rest of the site is well worth a look around, pics, videos and more The soul links section on here is currently a temp "work in progress" affair but when it does return fully (soon honest!) this will be up there "...as The Parakeets in the late 50s & early 60s, William Sr. valued song writing immensely. With no real local business model, he was forced to improvise resulting in the birth of Mo Do Records..." "...their own dance routines. Unlike the rest of the releases on Mo Do recorded at 50 Orange Street, Bob & Gene's debut single, "Your Name/You Gave Me Love" was recorded at a house in Williamsville, a wealthy suburb North of Buffalo. Their friend, Karen Renshaw aka "The Runt", sang back up on this release and the bulk of their output. Bobby's girlfriend's favorite Billboard chartbuster at the time was Linda Jones..."
