  11. whats the background to choice of soundtrack ? whens it out ? heres the storyline Plot summary for The All Together (2007) advertisement Martin Freeman plays Chris, a frustrated TV producer who is forced to leave his unreliable flatmate Bob played by Velibor Topic in charge of showing a series of real estate agents around the house he is trying to sell. Worried by Bob's habit of spending all day working in the basement playing loud music, Chris asks his friend to listen out for the door bell and show anyone who comes calling inside. Bob promises to do exactly that and for once, not to let him down. Over the course of the day, whilst Chris struggles to cope with his insane TV presenter colleague Jerry, played by Richard Harrington - back at the house it is soon clear that bonkers Bob is taking his promise to Chris rather too literally. Bob has indeed, allowed anyone inside, including a couple of gun-toting gangsters - an incompetent young Brit played by Danny Dyer and an incontinent American played by Corey Johnson. That evening, Chris is surprised to return home and find his flatmate, four estate agents, two Jehovah's Witnesses, a corpse and a terrified children's entertainer in what remains of his flooded kitchen. Of course, a roomful of water and broken furniture doesn't mean the end of the world - but the half-crazed American sitting outside the toilet with a gun, just might. Written by Kathryn Donovan

  16. It is with deep regret that we have to report that Sylvia died at Kettering hospital on Friday April 13th after five days on life support due to a heart attack. Her sister Sue Henderson, with her partner Mark Johnson and Sylvia's partner Aby Marlow, were with her throughout; her children Charlotte and William visited her during this period. Sylvia's funeral will be held at Tynemouth Crematorium, Walton Ave, North Shields, Tyne and Wear at 2.30 pm on Friday 27th April. The families would love to see anyone who wishes to attend. As per her expressed wishes, her ashes will be scattered at a later date from St. Mary's Lighthouse, a place she loved to visit throughout her life, which is situated a couple of miles further up the coast. Newcastle flowers to 48 Churchill St, Wallsend, NE28 7TD or donations to the British Heart Foundation 0207 487 7137 There will be a memorial function held after the service at the Rex Hotel, The Promenade, Whitley Bay NE26 2RL, where we will reminisce and celebrate Sylvia's life through soul music. We will be there from 3.30 pm onwards and anyone who cannot make the service is more than welcome at the function. The hotel overlooks the sea and has plenty of rooms available at a reasonable rate for overnight travellers: telephone 0191 252 3201, www.rex-hotel.com There will also be a memorial service at Market Harborough Parish Church, in the centre of the town, at 2.30pm on Tuesday 24th April, followed by a buffet in the Three Swans hotel on the High Street virtually opposite. Flowers or donations to MIND through the local undertaker, J Stamp and Sons, 01858 462524. The Henderson and Croasdell families will attend both events. A brief history of Sylvia's life on the soul scene has been posted and a book of condolence has been opened at www.6ts.info The funeral information on there at the moment is inaccurate and will be corrected shortly. Thank you for your very kind and thoughtful messages posted there and on here, it has been a source of great support for the families. If anyone would like further details you can email Sue Henderson at sparkymarkjohnson@hotmail.co.uk

  18. a bit of background info on this 45 from the writer and co-producer Ron Davies I recall that I played keyboards and clavinet on both Teacherman and the flip, Jeckyl and Hyde. The other producer, Rich Calandra, also played drums on the record. He passed away several years ago. I listened to it again, and it does sound good ... quite a production considering we recorded it in a studio/barn. We tried to promote the record on the fledgling disco DJ network at the time ('76) in the US, but they thought it was too R&B and "weak disco" - not commercial enough for their taste. Our production company that put the record together also produced a band called Spyro Gyra that went on to have top 40 pop jazz hits in the US. I know they were also popular in the UK. I am a soul jazz organist and still perform with Barbara - and I host a Soul Saturday Matinee where Barb is a regualr guest. She still sounds great. We are based in the Buffalo area of New York State (in the western part of the state) That's where the record was recorded. The Buffalo, NY area here is a hotbed of soul, funk and blues and it's nice to see that it strikes a chord with you guys. Ron Davis clip posted by simon m a while back Teacherman - barbara st clair - cross eyed bear anyone scan ? (sure seen one, earlier ebay ? but cant find it now)
  19. Bob S passed on a bit of background triv the other day on the track I do have one little story that you might find amusing.....When "Don't Leave" came out....it was No 1 in San Francisco...and my band & I went up there for some personal appearances and gigs....( I was here before for five years...lived in Hollywood ) Sly Stone was a D J on a local soul radio station in San Fran where Sly & The Family Stone were based. He was playing the ass off Don't Leave...and we heard it on every station as well. One night we went to a club " Winchester Cathedral " where Sly Stone and the band were appearing.....during the evening someone introduced me to Sly, who was the bass player as you know...... and he said "YOU'RE Bob Sansom ????!!!! " he thought I was black.....never played the song again !!

  23. request for info via contact us Simon Euan-Smith sent a message using the contact form at https://www.soul-source.co.uk/contact. Hi! - I wonder if someone could be kind enough to help me? I'm a freelance writer, and I've done an article dealing with, amongst other things, the records Ernie and Jean Terrell cut before Jean joined The Supremes. That Fury single is a real mystery! - no-one seems to know the catalogue number, or when it was released. There's a suggestion that it may have been a promo item only, though one person has told me he's sure the copy he had for years (and only recently sold!) was a regular issue. If anyone could shed some light, and give me any information (a scan of the record would be fantastic!) it would be very much appreciated. All good wishes, Simon Euan-Smith
