  1. Another 4 groovy mid/uptempo 60's Northern Soul rekids pulled at random from the sales box, this time they're all proper double siders - every track fit for disc jockeying to the nation's dancers, and at reduced, Lidl prices - a sheeyit lotta bang fo'yo bucks, Laydeez an' Gennelmin... ***SOLD***The Flairs - You Got To Steal It / Where You Live - RAP £95 ex cond. What was 'Steal' covered up as? Dave Thorley spin as I recall, a great dancer. 'Live' is gorgeous downtempo that sounds Detroit-y. Both sides come with authentic 1980's c/u residue in run out, at no extra charge! ***SOLD***The Whispers - You Got AMan On Your Hands / You Can't Fight What's Right - Dore £125 quality mid tempo chugging handclapping stompers! Both sides vg++ but play ex; the label is pressed slightly wonky on 'Fight' side but centre circle is true. ***SOLD***Bob Relf - no titles required, you know the score: maybe the bestest NS double sider ever. Immaculate condition, £135 ***SOLD***Tony Talent - Gotta Tell Somebody / Hooked on You - Vando vg+/+ £45 big bold brassy string laden Van McCoy creations. Tony might be a young'un but he swaggers through these with the old skool style his brilliant name suggests! Usual jive applies: - pm your interest but comment a pm's on the way - £8 for Special Delivery (£3 if buying Tony Talent) - PayPal only, as a gift or add 4% to total if paying as a business transaction Cheers m'dears!
  2. Curtis & Oscar have left the building...
  3. 4 x stone-to-the-bone, bona-fide classic, 70's & 80's Northern dancers for yer Saturday night. Classics in that they were huge hits at their peak and that their quality has endured they stood the test of time. Classics with credibility: as loved now as they were back then... ***SOLD*** Curtis - How Can I Tell Her - Charm City 1138 vg++ £80 Willie Darrington - Never Should Have Walked Away - RAV ex £130 ***SOLD*** Oscar Perry. - I Got What You Need - Peritone ex £85 joyous dancer with the bonus of having the awesome ballad Come On Home To Me on flip Larry Saunders - On The Real Side - Turbo ex £85 no need for sales chat, just brilliant ******************************** PayPal only, add £8 for Special Delivery and 4% if not paying as a gift. Please PM but stick a comment on that it's on the way. Cheers! 👍🏽
  4. The Revlons have left the building...
  5. Mornin' all. Too hungover to put a 15-tune list together so here's a couple I quite literally pulled out at random. Both in excellent condition... The Magnetics - Wasting Time - JV £125 Ok, hands up - I knew putting the magic word 'Magnetics' in the title would get your attention. Yes, it's those Magnetics, and while this is no 'When I'm With My Baby' it is a very tidy, late 60's crossover dancer that is obscure enough to compliment the group's mystique. ***SOLD*** The Revlons - Oh Oh Oh What A Love This Is - Toy Pat Brady's old Al Williams & Masqueraders c/u that's a damn fine gnorthern dancer which lives up to the pressure such a pseudonym demands! Another that seldom comes up for sale, a snip at £100 ***SOLD*** £8 for Special Delivery, PayPal only and as a gift (or add 4% transaction charge). PM's please, and mention in the comments there's s PM on the way. Cheers, Alan 👍🏽

  7. EJ Chandler & Exsaveyons on hold
  8. 60’s & 70’s Northern Dancers, from full-on bangers to mid tempo floaters. Quality tackle! *All in nice, tidy Ex condition unless otherwise noted* 60’s: *** ON HOLD *** EJ Chandler - I Can’t Stand To Lose You - SOS £80 proper Northern Soul like what we was weaned on as Youths, a bona fide classic and just a wonderful record *** ON HOLD *** Exsaveyons - I Don’t Love You No More - Smoke £85 as above, pure Northern! Candy & Kisses - Out In The Streets Again - Scepter *demo* £40. Price reflects the appearance on this tuff Ashford & Simpson-penned dancer. Looks like a rough vg+, plays much, much better. The Fugitives - Good Lovin’ If You Can Get It - Sandman £80 lovely, uptempo, feel good dancer The Sensations - I Won’t Be Hurt - Way Out £45 not in the same ball park as their Demanding Man monster but some damn-fine mid tempo goodness Gil Blanding - Rules - Ready £225 VG++ , plays loud crisp and clear. A much loved late Wigan classic that evaded the bootleggers The Enjoyables - Push A Little Harder / We’ll Make A Way - Capitol £80 priced to sell due to that tiny crack at the start (see photo), most of which is in the run in groove. Aside from a wee click for about 20 seconds both sides are in Ex/Ex+. Another winner from the ‘Shame’ group on Shrine, ‘Push’ was a firm favourite at the Glenrothes & Allanton niters, while ‘Make A Way’ is sublime group mid tempo. If there’s such a thing as a ‘solid’ crack this is it – hasn’t worsened in the 35 years I’ve owned this gem. Bobby Womack - Find Me Somebody - Atlantic *demo* £70 fierce, gritty Northern stomper, sung by one of the most loved voices in Soul. High time this gem had it’s day in the sun! ‘How Does It Feel’ on the flip is a tidy wee dancer, too! Slight label tear, as if anyone should GAF! 70’s Chuck Overton - I’m So Thankful / Is It Possible - Kapp £65 cracking crossover double sider. It’s not just me who can hear shades of ‘Time’s A Wasting’ in ‘It’s Not Possible’, is it? Curtis - How Can I Tell Her - Charm City - £70 vg++ surface scratches but not affecting play. Ok, calm down: it’s not the extremely tuff DM1932 release, but it is the recording that became a monster on the scene, and still in demand today. A true Modern Soul classic. The Exportations - I Want You / Find Another Day - Vir Ro £150 fine double sided dancer, cheapest price on the interweb! Four Wonders - Just Looking For My Love - Solid Foundation *demo* £60 quality mid tempo, priced to sell Luckey Davis - It’s Not Where You Start It’s Where You Finish - Highland £70 lovely, feel good dancer. Every home should have one! Otis Clay - The Only Way Is Up / Special Kind of Love - Echo £75 ok, condition first: looks vg++ with some surface marks that don’t affect play, but in keeping with most copies, it’s not clearest recording and has that hiss at the start. For decades I thought they all did but after enquiries, it appears some don’t, and accordingly, are priced into 3 figures. Another Modern Soul Classic from late Wigan/Clifton Hall era, while Special Kind of Love on the flip is a top drawer mid tempo dancer. *********************************************************************** Terms (please do read this if you're gonna buy something) : • Making an offer to buy - please PM me but also note on the sales thread there's a PM on the way. • Prices - while I'm sure my prices are reasonable, I might be open to offers on some titles, so ask. 9. SWEET HOME CHICAGO! 60’S NORTHERN FROM THE WINDY CITY : CLASSICS & CONNOISSEUR’S CUTS FROM LEGENDARY CHI TOWN LABELS, ARTISTS, PRODUCERS. PT 2: LABELS O – W All in at least Ex condition unless otherwise noted OKEH – Billy Butler : Right Track / Boston Monkey *demo* £140 vg++ some surface scratches on this bona fide, 100% first issue original of a classic that needs no sales waffle *** SOLD *** ONE DER FUL – Joe & Mack : Don’t You Worry £60 seldom seen mover, a Pat Brady c/u from Stafford but I’m buggered if I can remember what *** SOLD *** P.S – Dynamic Heartbeats : Danger / It Ain’t No Secret £70 why I haven’t been able to sell this top quality, double sided dancer for about a year is a secret. Really, WTF? As good a price as you’ll see - £150 Manship, £80 on Discogs SATELLITE – The Fantaisions : Unnecessary Tears / That’s Where The Action Is £35 another quality double sider TIP TOP – Jimmy Burns : Powerful Love / Give Her To Me £100 big, brassy, swaggering stomper I had some mileage with at Allanton back in ye day, with a very nice Sam Cooke-impression on flip. Note: the label is pressed off centre giving the record a wonky look on the turntable, but it’s just the label – centre is dead on and plays properly.. TUFF – Jimmie Raye : Look At Me Girl, Crying £30 awesome slowie, Jimmie’s hurtin and he let’s her know about it. A Stafford tape swappers fave! TWINIGHT – The Radiants : Don’t Wanna Face The Truth / Sunshine Girl £60 upbeat late 60’s dancer from this much loved group USA – The Shadows : My Love Is Gone / No Other Love £225 gonna hurt like hell to part with this one, loved it since hearing it on that Manship 60’s newies tape from ’82 I was on about in my earlier Chicago sales list. Searling’s old Jimmy Georgetown ‘ Stars Above’ c/u, awesome mid tempo, with an intro that pulled you to the floor like a magnet if you were lucky enough to hear it played out. I tried it a few times up here but was just a wee bit too deep for Scottish messheads in the 80’s… VAL - The Eruptions : Price of Love / Whispers Getting Louder £80 I don’t normally have any truck with so-called Garage Soul, but there’s something about these sides. Rarer and grittier than the Marshall & Chi Lites original, this has bags more oomph and presence for all nighter play. A heartfelt if original version of the Jackie Wilson classic tells me these kids really loved their R&B, as well as dropping acid! VERVE – Joe Moore : I Ain’t / I’ve Got My Sweet Baby £50 ASDA price for this double sides connoisseur’s fave. Not in the same league as his mega rarity on Mar V Lus – not many are, to be fair – but fine mid tempos *** SOLD *** WINDY C – The Five Stairsteps : Don’t Waste Your Time *demo* £45 one of the first originals I bought as a wee youth, learning the ropes with the classics. Lovely, sweet mid tempo from the scene's early days Terms (please do read this if you're gonna buy something) : • Making an offer to buy - please PM me but also note on the sales thread there's a PM on the way. • Prices - while I'm sure my prices are reasonable, I might be open to offers on some titles, so ask. 10. SWEET HOME CHICAGO! 60’S NORTHERN FROM THE WINDY CITY : CLASSICS & CONNOISSEUR’S CUTS FROM LEGENDARY CHI TOWN LABELS, ARTISTS, PRODUCERS. PT 1: LABELS A – M All in at least Ex condition unless otherwise noted ARGO – The Carltons : I’m A Man / Keep On Hoping *demo* £65 awesome, epic midtempo sound with a fine, Impressions-sound-a-like on flip. Tough find on demo ARGO – The Carltons : Ooo Baby / Can’t You Hear The Beat £45 another cracking double sider and another in the Impressions mould, but with added oomph! BASHIE – The Visitors : I’m In Danger £40 splendid dancer on local label (also available on Tangerine demo, same price) CHESS – Andy Mack : It’s Later Than You Think / Do You Wanta Go £50 knock down price for this big, brassy Stafford sound, with fine harmony backing by our pals The Carltons. Another goodie on the flip CHESS – Maurice McAllister : Baby Hang On / I’d Rather Do It Myself £40 two fine Northern dancers from The Radiants main man CRASH – Jimmy Dobbins : Little Miss Perfect £45 and it’s crash, bang, wallop all the way with this 100mph barn stormer FOUR BROTHERS – Tyrone (The Wonder Boy) : You Make Me Suffer / Please Consider Me £50 dunno what age the Boy Wonder Tyrone Davis was when he cut these tracks, but for a youth he sure sounds like he’s had a hard life. Mean, gritty stompers on each side FOUR BROTHERS – Sam & Kitty : Your Money My Love £50 understandably in the shadow of the legend that is I’ve Got Something Good, this is a cracking dancer in the same mould MAR V LUS – Josephine Taylor : Ain’t Gonna Cry No More £55 good, fast Northern, her best on the label and at a bargain price MICA – Ray & Dave : Wrong Wrong Wrong £120 much loved mid tempo from the Stafford era, in pristine condition MIDAS – The Compliments : Beware Beware / Borrow ‘Til Morning £80 sublime mid tempo 60’s group dancer yet refined enough for crossover appeal. In my book, just behind The Inspirations as 2nd best release on the label M PAC – Willie Parker : Don’t Hurt The One You Love / The Town I Live In £50 fine double sider. First heard Don’t Hurt on a John Manship 60’s Newies tape from ’82 and never can recall hearing it played out, a real shame. Town on the flip sees Willie approach the song with Sam Cooke-style phrasing, producing a really good mid tempo dancer. 11. A quick rule of thumb guide - which I have just made up, off the top of my head - to identify a bona fide, time served Northern DJ as opposed to a wannabe: the real thing doesn't need to use avatars of himself pictured hunched over a set of decks on his social media pages he doesn't include the initials 'DJ' in his user name he doesn't shoehorn-in references to him being a 'DJ' in all sorts of social media conversations, regardless of the subject he doesn't use phrases like "never leaves my box" / "always a floor filler for me" he doesn't stage his own soul nights, for which there is no discernible local demand, solely to give himself a gig Basically, a proper DJ's reputation speaks for him, he doesn't need to drop hints to get attention, which are a about as subtle as walking around wearing a sandwich board that says "I WANT TO BE A NORTHERN SOUL DISC JOCKEY, PLEASE GIVE ME THE FIRST HALF HOUR AT YOUR NEXT CHARITY NORTHERN REAL ALE FLASH MOB MINI DAYER". Or something like that...
  12. Haven't sold anything in ages Lads 'n Lasses - let's be 'avin yer! ***SOLD*** Albert Jones - 15 Cent Love - Kapp ex £65 Guy Hennigan’s delightful early 70’s dancer from Stafford. Then someone pointed out the other side, which I never considered on account of the daft title, and it promptly sold. More fool me: ‘Walk On..’ is a cracking mid tempo, making this a quality double sider, and a nice one to find a spare of in the unloved box… Diane Cunningham - Certain Kind of Lover - Fontana ex £75 another price slash on this top drawer Chicago mid tempo *** SOLD *** The Fidels - I Want To Thank You / Boys Will Be Boys - Maverick ex £40 my man Willie Hutch is calling the shouts on these two terrific sides of West Coast crossover grooviness ** SOLD *** The Fuller Brothers - Stranger At My Door - Soul Clock vg++ £175 cheapest price you’ll this mid tempo gem this side of the Millenium. In it’s “birth sleeve” (cringes at appalling sales patter…) Little Charles & Sidewinders - Hello Heartbreaker / Got My Own Thing Going - Drum £35 a magnificently atmospheric slowie is HH, with the rowdy, swaggering stomper on the flip showing Wee Charlie’s clearly over having his heart broken *** SOLD *** Ray Pollard - Wanderlust - Decca ex £60 big, swaggering, brassy fist pumper (ooh er) I am absolutely certain I first heard this via Guy Hennigan at Stafford, but maybe I’m confused ‘cos it sounds like such a typical, gritty Guy sound Sam And Bill - I’ll Try - Decca ex £60 like label mate Ray Pollard, here’s another pounding, Hennigan-esque 60’s banger. Popping up on playlists of late, too! The Valentinos - Do It Right / What About Me - Chess *demo* £40 couple of tidy, lesser known , mid tempo Northern sides. Bobby’s at his swaggering best on ‘Do’, with the brothers sounding like a kinda down-home Impressions on ‘What’. Real good stuff. The Whispers - You Can’t Fight What’s Right / You Got A Man On Your Hands - Dore £200 classy double sider, ‘Fight’ is in ex condition, ‘Hands’ is vg++ labels are pressed slightly off centre but just the labels, the centre is dead on. NAP Willie Parker - Don’t Hurt The One You Love - M Pac ex £70 Chicago couldn’t half turn out sturdy mid tempo fist pumpers!
