  1. Heard a show on radio 4 last week about background singers, Paul Jones (respect due) was disecting the vocal arrangement of Midnite Train with some other guy.Quite enlitening to hear all the points the Pips came in or not given thier technical terms Cannon, refrain echo etc., to sum it up both presenters gave it top marks and so they should! Diva ? that didn't sound like no Diva chortling away on Steve Wrights show on Thursday John

Had Tony Middleton Paris Blues on that lable so there must be a Bell,Amy, Mala connection?

  10. I'll second that The True Queen of British Soul Her version of Welcome Home knocks spots of Walter Jackson's Some Of Your Loving Top Soul Anthem many many more John
  11. Loving that, just love the way the guy pronounces "coonga's" GSH didn't stop making albums in the 70's Moving Target from the 80's is wel worth a listen As for an all time favourite 70's album I'd go for Lou Raglands The Conveyor bit short in supply though
  12. Wow! Andy Bey never thought I'd see his name on Soul source, Great albums on Blue Note with the Sisters and Horace Silver....... Blue Note 70s now theres a largley untapped source of modern dance music Back to the subject GHS live album on Arista is a must Brilliant live versions of Home is where the hatred is & The Bottle John
  13. I just love Ty Karim's voice John
  14. Don't you mean Relentless & Thunderin' one of my all time favourites. So good was it I thought it was a tailor made when I first heard it!!! Of course everyone is entitled to thier opinion...... but that bass piano, plaintive vocals, whacky horns and bass break are a dancers delight !!!!
  15. The current Mrs C has absolutely no idea of what the scene is about and no idea of the prices of rare soul..........oh that sweet innocence!!
  16. Don't know if this counts but Billy Pauls Let the Dollar circulate was played @ 45 rpm of the philly freebie 4 trak 7 inch which was at 33rpm A title thats quite right for the current situation Incidently i heard one of my favourite sounds George Blackwell at varying temo's over the years..........have I missed something? cheers John
  17. Always suprised to see "Where Wiil You go When the Party is over " go for a relatively high price on Portrait,(well to these resession hit pockets anyway) whats the current value of a Philadelphia International orig? (no US release, I believe) What other70s/80s UK only or small UK releases could still turn up in the Boot fairs/Charityshops Goldie Alexander,Basic Black&Pearl & Freddie Waters on Mint come to mind, must be loads more out there
  18. I danced to it....... and I wasn't off my head on chemicals !! If northern soul is all about dancing then the Little Anthony's and the Paul Anka's have got to be up there to me one tune that makes me smile, makes me want to shuffle, (Knees won't take it any more) and envy any one who has a copy is.............. CALL ME TOMORROW MAJOR HARRIS
  19. Kinda leaves you with a warm feeling and a hankering back to the days of Luxemburg and Caroline any one seen the film yet? oh by the way Percy Faiths Summer Place always does it for me
  20. Rains falling on my parade
  21. GIL SCOTT HERON poet and social comentator of our time Great dance record whatever genre you put it in . If Northern Soul is 'deep soul with a beat' then The Bottle's gotta be a protest song with a beat. Best version gotta be the live ARISTA lp but....... Home is Where the Hatred is kicks it into touch IMHO Been away from the scene for quite a while but did any of his later stuff 80's Gun etc get plays ?
  22. Thanks Mark, Fact is I got a copy of e bay for not-a-lot and I just wanted to see what a good deal I got John
  23. Anybody got a current price for Janice Saddler and the Jammers My Babys coming home to stay, plus which is rarer, demo or issue? Thanks John
  24. As far as I'm aware The Quadrophonics Betcha if you check it out is available on 3 labels Contempo, Innovation and Warners which is the rare one ?
