  1. I'm sure I can squeeze something out, Pete I picked this one up in Germany (in a shop called Saturn in Cologne in about 2000) - I've read that it's not an official release, though it looks kosher...
  2. Foundation Ska (CD HB185/186) - check Chicken Scratch (116617839 2) - check King of Ska (KECD01/02) - King Edwards Productions - check King of Ska Vol. 2 (KECD03/04) - King Edwards Productions - check I'd have to say that Buster's KING OF SKA (Jet Star / PBCD11 and mostly instrumental) is near-faultless. I'd add "Top Ska Tunes" (Trojan / TJCCD165) - Gaz Mayall selections has some walloping rarities, just ignore the self-indulgent liner notes. Has anyone mentioned "Duke Reid The Trojan - Nuclear Weapon" (Trojan / TJCCD090) - another not to be overlooked. Track listings for all available if needs be - just ask...
  3. IT'S MY DELIGHT, Chris...
  4. My missus never went to that many concerts with me and rarely does she go to any Reggae dos (bit more undertsandable, I s'pose). Trouble is, it's been musically a lonely life for me - no transport, never much cash and no mates or girlfriends to go to any gigs with back in the day. It's only through places like here and the Reggae forums that I've felt some affinity, as it were. Also, I've been lucky enough to meet some great people because of these places (although the only one from here has been Pete Smith)
  5. My wife's got no problem with Soul music - her 49th. birthday was 220 70s Disco and 80s Club Soul tunes running off the laptop and her 50th. was 210 Motown tunes, as chosen by our neighbours and myself...
  6. I recommend this on unreservedly, Teresa - if you can find it...
  7. ...plus there are some cracking Ska compilations, Teresa - if you need some indications, just ask

  9. I have a Winston Wright (I think) organ version on a CD-R somewhere - it's similar to U-Roys' WAKE THE TOWN but without him, but I'm blowed if I can remember or find it...
  10. I only have U-Roy's D.J. piece on 45 - WAKE THE TOWN (which is no help of course), but I do have a completely instrumental version on a CD-R somewhere - I can't remember what the track was called, but if I can find it, I may have the details on whence it came...
  11. Couple of other "Jerry Jones" here, Tim... https://www.discogs.com/search?type=artists&q=jerry+jones&btn=Search

  16. Temptations' THE SKY'S THE LIMIT - always a joy to play, not a dud track on there - gets better with age. Hard for me to think of another, though WHAT'S GOING ON? is close...
  17. I've always been well into Jamaican music (my first musical love and it will probably be my last), as well as many sub-genres of Soul from mostly the 60s, 70s and 80s - Northern, Southern, Disco, Funk, Disco, Philly, Motown, Stax, Disco etc. etc. Always enjoyed Abba too. However, the skeleton in my musical cupboard is surely my abiding and long-running affection for Cologne's Karneval Musik - ever since I first visited in February 1976 and 40-odd trips since. I love its pointlessness, joyfulness, the atmosphere it creates and the places I've danced to it in B) Do I win £5? ... or DM 5? ...or 5?
  18. I only have ARE YOU READY? on the "Reggae To The U.K. With Love" L.P. (Pama PSP1004 / 1971), Dave. Great tune. I'm not selling
  19. Spot on, Lord. ...and let's not forget that not only did he play on thousands of sessions (unmistakeably, but often un-credited), but also graced the UK Pop charts at least once via Johnny Nash's HOLD ME TIGHT B) B) I wonder how Lyn Tait (or even JA music) would have developed had he stayed back-a-yard?
  20. Whatever it is (if sampled at all), I enjoyed it and its retro feel... B)
  21. I have the original LP - typical LA rhythms of that early '69 period - but only slightly better than average. I'd be more inclined to play a CD, since it'd be more convenient and who knows, I might like the album more...

Excellent compilation B) For once, not only do I have the original LP, but also every track on this - a rarity for me, as I usually huff and puff over a handful of tracks I didn't already have on such compilations
  23. Fabulous compilation B) I'd forgotten about that one - I remember seeing most, if not all, those "Backtrack" compilations in my local record shop back in about 1970 or 1971. I only bought volume 6 about 4 years later for about 20p in a sale in W.H.Smith in Ealing Broadway. Here's the track list A1. Sandpebbles ~ LOVE POWER / 1967 A2. Parliaments ~ I CAN FEEL THE ICE MELTING / 1967 A3. Precisions ~ IF THIS IS LOVE (I'D RATHER BE LONELY) / 1967 A4. Debonaires ~ HEADACHE IN MY HEART / 1966 A5. Sandpebbles ~ BECAUSE OF LOVE / 1967 A6. Parliaments ~ LET HURT PUT YOU IN THE LOSER'S SEAT / 1970 B1. Debonaires ~ I'M IN LOVE AGAIN / 1967 B2. Al Kent ~ YOU GOTTA PAY THE PRICE / 1965 B3. Parliaments ~ TESTIFY (I WANNA) / 1967 B4. Precisions ~ YOU'LL SOON BE GONE / 1967 B5. Parliaments ~ DON'T BE SORE AT ME / 1970 B6. Al Kent ~ WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE? / 1967
  24. According to the "Studio One Women" Soul Jazz CD's liner notes, THERE'S A CHANCE FOR ME dates from '67. You know I thought Jerry Jones was a bloke when I bought this single all those years back - luckily my coat is just over there, so I'll go and get it
