i found a mint one in LA years ago..and Dave Rai said its very rare on black issue..
  6. ..my story is really the reverse..back in the late 70's..i had a regular Saturady gig playing northern soul (some chart) at the Chuck Wagon in Skegness..it was very popular so a local club owner at a country club gave me the job there on a Sunday night..he thought i'd be playing disco etc..so i fed in plenty of northern in the guise as new releases or 'will be out next week'..using the Supremes,Tramps,James Brown,Al Green, anything i could use a s a cover up artist name..got away with it for three weeks then..adios..fave was playing Lillie Bryant as Diana Ross.....
  7. oh i know..IL was very keen to bang the black drum early on..look at his liner notes on solid sensations..but he went astray when he did the tailor mades and the disco dross..(obv got carried away in studio 54) and he would play anything black or white if it suited him..i loved the MVP's, Present..hated barnaby Bye..good job we're not all the same..
  8. ah..soul snob..was it the early influence of IL..?..glad you got cured...
  9. wouldnt bother..there's only one version Big Bad Bo's..also live on beach party album..

  11. remember these comin out thru (Soul bowl?)..always wondered if the vocal to gallop was ever a 60's recording..or 60's release (Satiron)..or a SB special...anyone?
  12. so whats the difference? is it a vocal?
  13. Ian, cant believe you never heard this 71-73..as i say i had it on tape (nothing rare on this tape either)..i'm sure it was spun then and was already a known sound..Russ obv picked it up as a forgotten sound as by then his playlist was ..shall we say varied...
  14. have to disagree..i had this on a tape that was done for me in 1972 ish..had all the current sounds of that time..and i did hear it tho not that often in some northern 'discos'..72/73..and i think it may well have been a wheel sound..always liked it..
  15. is it the same tune as the flip of the gallop..(Carla)
