Who Or What Are We
Yes, I realise all that, but I meant dthedrug was extrapolating his contempt for the term into a violent hatred of the OP for comic effect. I also think its a bit naff, but I use the term because I don't know a better one in common use.

Who Or What Are We
I think he's referring to There is some general malevolence from Ady C and others towards soul patches, and some balanced, reasonable, fraternal love from the interestingly unreadable dthedrug, who hates the term 'soulie' almost as much as he hates carriage returns and the caps lock key. I think d was having a laugh though. Chorleysoul then defines 'soulie's position on the naffness scale.

Roller Soul
There's been a couple of roller videos and links posted up here recently. I was pretty nifty on the skates when I was a nipper, are they making a comeback?

I can just hear him saying it as well. Simpsons is awesome at times.

Who Or What Are We
What's the collective name for a group of soulies? A casino? According to the internet, along with the well-known murder of crows, there are also odd collective names like a shrewdness of apes a flange of baboons So, I guess after a pride of lions, how about: A faith of soulies?

Who Or What Are We
No, the 'ie' ending makes it sound like something fluffy and twee like a cardie. I mean, if punks were called punkies and mods were moddies they would sound ridiculous. I agree with your point though, and I use 'soulie' with no worries as its traditional, obvious and the music is cool enough to carry any name.

Who Or What Are We
I'm not sure it still qualifies as a youth cult. Soulie is what most would recognise, but it does seem naff for some reason. As does the the word 'naff'. To reflect the longevity and respect, I think August Rare Soul Fans, or Arsouls for short might be good.

The North South Divide
Ta, Phil. Was very lucky with the transport last couple of years and made the most of it. Will be scaling back now, being more sensible and picky - luckily we've got lots to choose from - particularly in the North - and your little nighter is one of the best of 'em. See you there soon.

The North South Divide
I've been to a couple darn sarf, and dancefloor discipline wasn't a major concern. I would also say it is shared by some clubs run by younger promoters, some mod dos, and (from what I've heard) some European dos as well. On the other hand I went to the 100 club for the first time the other day, and it was brilliant, though as it was an anniversary it may not be representative. Bear in mind there is a school of thought different to that at your average Northern whippet-eating nighter; that seems to go along the lines "rules are for control freaks, and they intimidate or discourage newbies". Importantly, there isn't the cultural history of "the dancefloor is for dancers", and nightclub tradition seems to provide the template. Its a particular bugbear of mine, but neither do I like the bullying or undiplomatic approach sometimes taken at more traditional places up here. It is worth bearing in mind that what most of those places have that many traditional nighters don't, along with the pissheads on the dancefloor is lots more young people. I haven't been to enough places to generalise though, but I would hazard a guess that not all the traditions of Northern Soul went South (and elsewhere) with the music.

Travel Arrangements For 100 Club
Yeah. Well, I did, though I felt a bit conspicuous washing half-naked (top-half, smart alecs) in the bogs. It didn't have that changing room feel. Cloakroam (ie. recess under the stairs), quid a bag. Others kept them by their table.

Travel Arrangements For 100 Club
I also parked within a few hundred yards, no problem. First time, and I was quite surprised how easy it was (I asked advice first). I travelled a couple of hundred miles south, so booked a cheap room just outside London (30 mins from venue), then drove in later on. There are also night buses running to the outskirts all night if you want to drink which are apparently full of gangs of marauding drunken thugs, but as I watched them go past the venue at 3 and 4 in the morning, they didn't look as bad as they are reputed to be. ?>

Ever Asked A Dj For A Request
Any blokes reading that useful tip who've never met her, I would strongly advise against taking that approach with JumpinJoan. Don't worry though fellers - the Attic lads are renowned for their relaxed, open-minded, touchy-feely deck management.

In my experience Harry, there isn't an established nighter that doesn't have something really enjoyable about it if you are open to the experience, regardless of your musical taste. Best to try as many as you can, and work it out for yourself - it can often take a couple of trips to get the feel of a place. According to the Allnighter Planner, coming up in the midlands(ish) next month or so we've got Rugby Kings Hall, Stoke Nuneaton Co Op Lifeline Six Hills Bishops Wood Barnsley Stormin' Soul (not technically the midlands, but nearer to York in your signature than the others) Bidds and a few others that are still relatively new. Rugby would be a great start for you next Saturday.

Original Vinyl Only ?
Ha! I spit on your measly 10 pages. Here's 1405 (so far) - and I don't even like football. Or counting. Anyway, it's off topic. Original, whiny, 'original vinyl only' only, please.

Song Title Wanted
- Song Title Wanted
I saw that one as well, but I don't think its got the other lyric OP mentions in. Like the record though. Also done by the Walker Brothers, amongst others. https://www.youtube.c...h?v=5wb5kX2hzfI- Song Title Wanted
I can't help either. Will anyone else who can't help let JJMMWGDuPree know as well, so if his direct appeal fails, he will at least know who can help thanks to davetay's ingenious initation of the process of elimination.- So Called Motown Fans
No normal Motown fan would have come up with those objections given that playlist. The venue (presumably the Fed, Nottingham last night) has another do, a monthly Northern event. Craig is also name DJ involved at a big localish monthly Northern/Handbag event (Westgate). Probably punter was vaguely aware of this, and was trying to appear 'clever' to boast to his/her mates how theyd used their vast power of musical knowledge to wind up the DJ as soon as they heard a track not on their sole Motown Chartbusters CD.- Silent But Soulful - Is It Ok?
I agree, but am not interested in any idiot waffling into a microphone he or she has no idea how to handle. The main purpose of the DJ is to provide the music - I am not paying to hear their philosophy on life. The point is not that they should stay silent, but if they open their mouth, there should be a reason for it. E-nun-ci-ate. Get to the point. - Song Title Wanted
