Yes that's the one!!! Wish I'd kept mine;;(
  3. I don't think that you are a keyboard warrior mate As a wheel regular for the last 4 years I do agree love the Fridays and the allnighters ( but I don't stop till the end work commitment ) Sunday's are fantastic up to About 5pm then you see to get loads of "tourists" (for want of a better word) drinking on the dancefloor spilt drinks ect. Great atmosphere though and I am still hearing stuff that is new to me and have to ask wtf is that Today I'm gonna try and dance to as many tracks as I can today is gonna be special it's the wheel and long may it keep turning Spike
  4. Don't chip away too much of the dancefloor please it's mighty crowded as it is!!!;)
  5. Well some of the attendees at the wheel were some of the origanal cool cats as you call them If you haven't got anything constructive to add to this debate why use it to have a go at the oldies scene? What has German record collectors got do with a German hotel group developing whitworth street? I personally enjoy both the Sunday and Friday soul sessions at the wheel and therefore will help in any way possible to keep it open It is a big part of the history of the soul scene to me it is the birthplace of what became northern soul If it goes it will be another part of history lost forever Best of luck looking for the next big thing I'll just keep on dancing with the geriatric Crew

Never been a "badger" myself But I do remember the worst one that we had given to us at the 3rd anniversary @ wigan It was a square piece of cloth with a badge printed in the middle bit like a cheap hanker chief !
  7. Stood in the queue waiting to go in Can just hear a distant beat conning from the dance floor can't quite make out what the tune is , but the. excitement and expectation is starting to get the adrenalin going! Bump bump bump goes the beat still can't make it Testing one two three Can't wait to get in Get in Another tune is on I never get to know what was playing first!! Forget to ask as I get carried away with being at another soul night ( at least I hope that this will happen tonight at the wheel!)
  8. Fantastic read little Richard at the casino WOW
  9. Alongside of giving examples which is a hep to me,cos I ain't got a clue what "crossover"'is could some one define the term crossover? This is a genuine quest for knowledge not a piss take

  11. My mate Benny from chesterfield has a photo of jr walker laid on his back playing sax from that performance tookwith a poliaroid If I can get him to scan it I'll put it on here
  12. No Offence intended Andy You never know on this forum not everybody likes us oldies ;) Happy new year
  13. That second room is what they now open in sundays What were the nighters like in the 8ts? Cos they have a policy of only playing tracks that were played at the original twisted wheel clubs now which works for me but not perhaps everyone!;)
  14. Are you saying that the current wheel is situated in a gay club? Or are you trying make some sort clever comment snout the revived twisted wheel sessions?
  15. typical bank holiday weekend cica 1977 Fridays either sammanthas Sheffield or over to notts to the Brit then off to coalville or Peterbourgh (was that on Fridays??) allnightrs Saturday wigan Sunday back to notts pally aldayer Monday matlock bath pavilion aldayer Kin ell it was nearly Friday again!!!! Ps was the coalville nighter at a bailies club ?? Just remember that it was in the town centre
  16. The original wheel was brazenose street no longer exists The whitworth street site was the second location for the wheel which closed in 71 It then became placemates which was a night club don't know if it was a gay club or not? The re-opened wheel at the whitworth St site which opens as a soul venue twice a month is now called legends and is indeed a gay club On Fridays when the " wheel" is on we can only use the downstairs part of the building that's the original stage room and coffee bar the rest of the building is used as a gay club never any problems with either crowd! For the Sunday sessions we have the use of the upstairs which has more than doubled the 400 capacity So we get two dancefloors and three bars At the last Sunday session they had to open another bar / dancefloor area because about 1000 people turned up! If you like really old rythmn n blues ska sixties soul mixed in with motown and cassic " northern soul"? Give it a try If you turn up toad find me and I'll buy you a pint Spike For the Sunday
  17. Yes found it an interesting read Myself Can't wait to get on that wheel dancefloor Friday night!
  18. Carms try this https://www.soulbot.com/bluenote/ Wel looks like I learn something new every day !! I walk past the waldorf every time I go the wheel Ne'er new that was were the bluenote used to be very interesting read about the old scene I'll be digging for more info from Some of the old guard on Friday night Thanks carms you've woke me up!!
  19. Indeed Soshe, there was an article in the M.E.N around '96 i think, been surfing the web but can't locate it but it reported that the statue of Lincoln was sinking and while excavating beneath it the workmen uncovered what was left of the old Wheel cellars! For Mike-Here's the link to the site which was set up by original Manchester Mods and Wheelers-a cracking good browse with tons of stuff about the R&B and soul music scene and culture in the North and North West in General and Manchester in particular and the clubs that you hear the "Originals" recall. I must warn you though you'll spend hours on all the links on the site,it's a must read for anyone whether they were there in the 60s or just picking up the baton now! https://manchestersoul.co.uk/msoul/index.html __________________ KTF & KOKO, Bernard. 20. Here's a picture ( Pete has upped this before)... Can't copy picture sorry!! https://twistedwheelclub.com/index.php try this link which shows the Left Wing Coffee bar, which became The Twisted Wheel in 1963. Upstairs was a coffee bar, and downstairs, in the cellar, was the dancefloor. So pretty similar to Whitworth Street when that first opened... The building is long gone now. Go down Deansgate and find the square with a statue of Abe Lincoln, and you are pretty much standing where it was. It is said that some of the cellars could still be there under the flagstones. This any help?
  21. Carms I also found brazenose St the otheryear whilst shopping or wasting time till the whitworth St one opened! There was some old pictures on the twisted wheel forum the other year join that and ask some of the guys on there cos some of them went to the 1st wheel and the blue note Happy hunting Ps are you going to the wheel this Friday ? It'll be a cracker Ktf spike
