  8. Well well, seems like the Paperboy has stirred all sorts of emotion! My original post was only meant to explore how well known he was. I was just impressed to come across a young unassuming artist who favours a soulful style that sounded right in the groove of my 60's taste. It was great to hear something on the local radio on the road to work other than the obvious (but still classy) Motown numbers, 3 Degrees, Edwin Starr (God bless him) and even Dobie Gray's "Drift Away" amongst others. Given the fact that our scene, regardless of what specific type of soul you're into is constantly evolving I'm glad so see and hear there's someone current who is clearly influenced by the real thing (check the play list in the earler post) that may be able to influence a whole new generation to take a look at the vast array of quality soul that exists off the beaten track. I for one will pick up his album, probably the last one as well, just before I pick up some tickets to see him live. Thanks for all the replies, many interesting reads that generally suggest he's a breath of fresh air in a dull UK chart. Regards, Lee
  9. Pete, what are you doing letting that crazy kid near those precious slabs of vinyl? You need to be setting some ground rules mate! Lee
  10. Thanks everyone for your replies, interesting to hear how well he's known and that his release is likely to do well and get him some rewards. Gutted I hadn't picked up on him in time to pick up tickets for his Brighton gig, heigh ho, if he's going big, there'll be plenty of other opportunities. I'll be picking up his album that's for sure. Keep on! Lee
  11. I first heard his new track "Come and get it" on my local radio station a few weeks ago and immediately picked up on it's 60's soul/motown style. Didn't catch the artists name but soon discovered it to be Eli Paperboy Reed who it appears paid his own way to get around the circuit finally to be recognised and signed by Capitol. I've gotta say it's being plugged big time, which is amazing for this style of music on a commercial radio station that covers a significant portion of the South Coast. Eli makes reference to Bobby Womacks "What is this" as one of his favourite/influential tracks. Come and get it is well worth a listen, so the link is below: https://elipaperboyreed.com/uk/ Regards, Lee

  17. What am I doing in L-O-S......... wishing I was out there in baggy dad! They must be paying top dollar 4 U so you'd better get off S/S and crack on. Catch up soon, Lee
  18. Russ, I don't know anything about the Shiptown label (honest) but if you're on your scooter down Lee on Solent way this avvy pop in the Coastie Rescue Station and I'll sort us a brew and we can talk shop. Best, Lee
  19. Brian, as ever the font of all knowledge, Cheers, Lee
  20. I am interested in who the Group were and where the Nite Beat label hailed from, although I understand it to be a Philly label from 1970? I know the 45 went on nationally with Cotillion, but all I have seen are issue copies, does it exist in promo form with both sides "Pretty as a picture" and "To make you love me"? Cheers, Lee
  21. I can't believe that a 33 like this isn't being snapped up at what is a great price. A full house of fantastic tracks... Highly recommended.
  22. It cheered me up seeing Alan's name in light's. Going back some years he always tipped me off about great tracks others would ignore, so much so I am still looking for some of them now. I was aware of his Casino outing's but never heard anyone else mention his deeds, clearly underrated, shame as Alan knows his stuff.

  24. I hadn't even thought about it, but now you mention it I feel another crusade coming on! Best, Lee
  25. You'll notice my recent 33's sales didn't include my copy of this, you'd have to be mad to let it go once you've got it!!!! Any demo copies out there? Mine's a mint black issue. Just a reminder of how good it looks, superb cover! Lee
