  8. Had a few copies of baby, peaked at 350, and seems to have settled at 200-250 from what I've seen. Is the photo confirmed as Little Doc or are they the 2 footballers?
  9. A short but high quality list. Sound files and additional images available if you want. PM and questions or to reserve. Doug Banks - I just kept on dancing - Argo 5483 DJ M- £300 SOLD (Fabulous oldie, Latin tinged brassy big voiced floor filler. Note the title is all on one line, a much less common variant with this design and it’s the rarer DJ copy for cream on the top, bell sound stamped of course) Dee Clark – That’s my girl - Constellation 113 Ex £100 (The way to own it, on the glistening starry label design, beautiful, light graze on surface DNAP, very minor edge lift) Anthony & Aqua Lads - I remember - Gold Bee 1650 Vg+ £200 SOLD (Carolina gem, some spots on topside label caused by fluid it seems, no detriment to the vinyl, but it does show signs of use with lines all over, BUT plays through with great clarity, probably Ex-, minor edge lift DNAP) Ward Burton - Sweet temptation - Panther 5 Ex £2000 (Smooth mid-tempo out of the Mark V Studio in Greenville. The vinyl is Ex and just short of M- with just the lightest storage marks, nothing in it really but trying to be conservative. The top side label shows some light ring wear, hence grading at Ex, but it plays very nicely indeed) David and Ruben - (I love her so much) It hurts me - Rampart 662 WD M- £600 (Made a decision, rightly or wrongly, to keep a Linda variant, apart from the blue stock copy this is the next rarest format, probably regret it !) Al Jarreau - Shake up - Raynard 10024 M- £750 (In terms of mainstream music Al was Royalty, in terms of the Northern scene, perhaps this is Al’s one and only Northern offering, and from intro to run off its a sparkling upbeat dance track that strikes a party vibe with quality vocals. Milwaukee release in tip top condition, a class act) Trade Martin – Work song – RCA 8926 M- £100 SOLD (Black stockers always nice for the collectors, tiny bubble on vinyl, light label wear as more easy to detect on the majority of black labels, does not affect playback) Showmen - You’re everything / Our love will grow - Swan 4219 WD Ex+ £175 SOLD (Great label that provides quite a lot of decent sides, this being a twofor, top class tunes both of them) PayPal by friends or add 4% please, or bank transfer. Postage: £3.25 - 1st Class Signed For (Only covers to £50) £7.65 - Special Delivery (Fully insured up to £500) £8.65 - Special Delivery (Fully insured up to £1000) £10.65 – Special Delivery (Fully Insured up to £2500) Overseas on Request Cheers, Lee

  11. Fabulous South Carolinan Northern up grabs…… Additional images or sound file on request, PM any questions or to reserve. Ward Burton – Sweet temptation – Panther 5 Ex £2000 Popularity from DJs and collectors for this this silky smooth mid-tempo track continues to rise. This copy comes from a fellow band member of a friend who practically lived at the Mark V Studio in Greenville. Both played in ‘Bojax’ who recorded on Panther, and my friend was very tight with writer Will Hammond, friends with Moses Dillard, the Showmen and the Nomads of Mo-Groov fame, but more remarkably for me he went to school with Martha Starr. The vinyl is Ex and just short of M- with just the lightest storage marks, nothing in it really but trying to be conservative. The top side label shows some light ring wear, hence grading at Ex, but it plays very nicely. Just this week seen a copy go through eBay at £2.3k plus about £350 VAT to add if coming to the UK, so an opportunity to secure one as prices continue to climb on this desirable 45. PayPal by friends or add 4% please, or bank transfer. Fully insured post included, but overseas on request. Cheers, Lee

  20. Ends today if you want to act on this very rare and very much under the radar stunning New Orleans dancer….. Message any questions or to make an offer. Joe Wilson – I’m her only man – White Cliffs 242 M- OFFERS Minimum offer made, ball rolling, thank you. Studio owner Cosimo Matassa set up Dover Records as an all-encompassing enterprise to provide a one-stop operation that handled recording, pressing, distribution, marketing, promotion and sales for a whole host of labels including A.B.S., Big Deal, Deesu, Hot-Line, Mar-A-thon, Nola and Shagg the security of strength in numbers. This “Crescent City” flag of convenience has contributed significantly to the Northern scene with outstanding tracks from short or more extensive catalogues, and in this case still throwing up more. Taking on the role of President, Matassa had already added the White Cliffs label to a growing ‘Big Easy’ portfolio, working with some of New Orleans most renowned owners and producers, people like Wardell Quezergue, Marty Lewis, Allen Toussaint, Marshall Sehorn and Merle Spears, who would all benefit from Dover’s joined up approach and resulting successes. Matassa had named the White Cliffs label and wider business on the back of his affection for the English sea port and its famous coastline. The music policy was considered by many at the time as scattergun, with a variety of R&B, Soul, Garage and Gospel releases. Suffice to say there does not appear to be much information about most acts, including Joe Wilson, who’s trio of releases on this label are still to this day relatively unknown. Don & Ron suffered for many years, filed away in too few collections, only coming to the fore as tastes and demand changed, now of course a very in demand record appearing on many wants lists. Back to Joe, very little information has surfaced, a sparse discography grown over over 2-3 decades, during which he continued his relationship with Wardell Q on various labels and projects, ultimately leading to several unreleased tracks finally emerging on the Malaco Soul Brothers CD, contributing alongside fellow artists Chuck Brooks and George Soule. Eventually he slipped back into obscurity, and possibly out of touch since Katrina. Like many in the 60s, he did the rounds, club to club before landing a recording contract with White Cliffs Publishing for which he compiled 3 releases, comprising of 2 notable deep soul ballads and 2 up-tempo dancers. The later “Headed for a fall” was once touted as dance floor killer, but to my ears is a bland affair. The earlier “I’m her only man” on the other hand and in my opinion is in a different league. Evidence from chat forums by those familiar with this track, seem to echo my view. Joe has a unique vocal style, reminding me of another Joe, Sir Joe on Ru-Jac, the likeness is uncanny. This is real deal Northern, beguiling drum and subtle guitar intro, then BAM! the transition through a tumultuous horn fanfare, quirky guitar chords, and into the raw and unique R&B tinged voice that amplifies the excellent storyline that carries right through an energetic dance track that has decades of life in it. Not fancy or over produced, and at times pitchy, but none the less – fresh breathtaking soul in a day and age when oldies are, what it says on the tin, “nothing new”. I want to say the vinyl is near mint, but I’m conservative so I'll stick with mint minus. The yellow labels exhibit a grey mottled discoloration; however I would normally expect to find some suggestion of damp, water damage or wear on a labels surface where this occurs, BUT, they are absolutely silky smooth and glossy in the light as if they were like new as is the vinyl, the mottling is entirely under the label and has no detrimental effect on the exterior unless you are put off by cosmetics, for me its the equivalent of an X or sticker on the label in terms of no impact on overall condition. It’s one thing knowing this record, owning it is a different matter altogether, it just doesn’t turn up, so here’s your chance, take a punt now or forever hold your peace…….. seen on Facebook Rare Soul Sales forum in 2019, $3000 for Vg-. Current offer at 6pm on 30 Jan is £2500. Increments are set at £25 to avoid sniping. I will close on Mon 31 Jan at 9pm. Fully insured postage included, however overseas is on request. Cheers, Lee Fully insured postage included, however overseas is on request. Cheers, Lee Joe Wilson - I'm her only man.mp3

  22. Just the one tonight with a bit of a pitch…………. images and sound file included, PM any questions or to reserve. Click on the player and listen while you read 😀 Al Jarreau – Shake up / Boom boom – Raynard 10024 M- £800 You’ll be familiar with a host of commercial soul artists, including the likes of Al Green, Barry White, George Benson, Lionel Ritchie, Smokey Robinson and Luther Vandross to name a few, and that all of those chaps would have had to fight their way through the rough 60s induction to establish any semblance of a money earning career let alone be vaunted by the rock and roll hall of fame. One name not in that list but of the same ilk is Al Jarreau. Here’s a man who started out in 1961 and endured a dog eat dog music industry for an incredible 56 years, notching up the incredible accolade of being the only vocalist in history to win Grammy Awards in three different categories of Jazz, Pop, and R&B. In terms of mainstream music Al was Royalty, in terms of the Northern scene, unlike some of his previously mentioned contemporaries he is a relative stranger. It’s not surprising that as a Milwaukeean Al chose Dave Kennedys local Raynard label to record his earliest outings way back in 1964 and whilst this was accompanied by another release titled “Ska Bobbi / I am not afraid” they were not followed up by another recording anywhere before the early 70s. Here we have perhaps Al’s one and only Northern offering, and from intro to run off its a sparkling upbeat dance track that strikes a party vibe. The deep horn intro and buzzing vocals scream out for chairs to be vacated and the floor to be filled as quickly as you can, this good time feelin’ track is a fizzer, bubbling over with energy and oozing excitement throughout. The flip is more composed, not sedate, but brings out the quality of his vocals and it shouldn’t be sniffed at as decent side in its own right. I know of one astute DJ with a copy, there’s probably others but not many, so here's a golden opportunity to grab relatively unknown dancer. Rare to say the least, and a treasure trove piece for the Northern scene given his obvious absence from it and the enormity of his contribution to music over all those years. It was a toss up between auction or set sale! Vinyl is mint minus and those citrus infused labels are full of zest as they spiral on the turntable.
