100 club, now you're talking. More reprobates & dysfunctionals per square foot than any bar this side of Mos Isley. Not so much unfriendly as scary. Fancy meeting up there in June? Col.

Northern Northern Soul V
Good evening Ian. It was a most refreshing cycle ride, but I am pleased to be back to defend the south's honour. Have noticed your comments above & will try not to sound off like a stuck record North/south music divide - regret I'm not qualified enough to comment. North/south friendliness divide - I would say there is no divide. I've done 4 week-enders in the last year, chatted to many southerners & northerners. There is no difference. Convince me otherwise. Col ps Good to read your comments Trifle, although you are of course wrong too

Ian, you've written many a good post on here, but the above is a complete load of old tosh. I just don't see how you can generalise like that. Whether you go out & have a good time and meet new people depends more on your state of mind on the nite. It also helps if you are in confident mode. Geography does not come into it. Have to go out now for a couple of hours (mountain biking) will ad further later. Col.

Northern Northern Soul V
"One to ponder on this. I don't travel up north as much as I'd like to, or as much as I used to (Age, time, family etc). But is there a difference between a typical Northern set (ie played in the North) as opposed to that played at a Southern do? Same dj's travel the length and breadth of the country to do their sets right? So it should be the same. I can't help thinking it's not though somehow." There is no difference IMO "Couple of things made me think this over a period of time. As I know some Southerner's who think that the South is cutting edge in some respects" They must be living in a bubble. The only other thing I'd like to add regarding upfront rare soul down south that hasn't been already mentioned is the Southern Soul Club. Steve C & Molly work really hard putting on soul nites in the Portsmouth area. Col.

The Cricket Is About To Start So Here's
Quality post Dan. Personally I'm bored stiff with all the off topic footy stuff. I think Dan's post is now the un-official bench mark. If you want to go off topic & talk about football my request is that you DONT, unless its going to be really witty. Col. ps I don't like cricket either.

Sandi Sheldon Okeh Info
Thanks for replies. Just 1 more question... As the Major Lance - You Don't Want Me No More is a 70s re-issue, whats it worth? Thanks again. Col Valuation for my interest only - I'm not selling.

Sandi Sheldon Okeh Info
Whilst checking out a few records that I've had sitting around since the year dot, I came across Sandi Sheldon. Ovenchips values at £600 for the version with large 45 on label & £30 for version with small 45 on. I of course have the version with the small 45 on! Is my version a legit re-issue. Its properly stamped up on the run out grooves, but the label is not that well stuck onto the record (looks like air bubbles got in there). Also in the box was Major Lance - You Don't Want Me No More. The guide doesn't distinguish between large & small 45s on this one. So I assume that it was only issued the once? Thanks for help. Col.

Northern Nights In The Home Counties
Rant?........Sorry if you saw it that way. Sorry if you didn't like what you read. I saw it as an entertaining exchange of views. Although, its fair to say that not everybody did. It was also a good opportunity (the first time ever in print as far as I'm aware) to get a northern soul perspective on Reading. You mentioned "the chance of hearing Jazz Funk, northern and Modern" Every 3 months or so I'm involved with a nite up in Chalfont St Peter that does exactly that. I play some northern, Bomber plays Jazz-Funk & Stuart does a bit of both. And do you know what?........we all have a good laugh, no arguments! I also have fond memories of Frenchies......but please don't tell any one Yes OBJs was Hammersmith, absolutely storming nites. Ever do Sunday lunch times at the Belvedere near Ascot? We've obviously bumped into each other in the past.....may do so in the future? Best regards Col ps my brother & mates are just back from Caister - they enjoyed it!

On The Scene
Jamie, You may well be right. Its like living in a goldfish bowl down here. You see the same people every week Col.
-
On The Scene
I agree with Mischief, but as we are way off topic I'll be brief. If you took all of the people from a mod/scooterist background out of the northern scene......there wouldn't be a scene left to talk about. Col.

Reading All-dayers
There's all sorts of versions there. If you can't find one you agree with, just make up one. Col

Reading All-dayers
Happy days indeed Dave Not sure about the date. Would be interested to know myself. The date has been documented in a few books on Jazz-Funk. and I think Mark Bicknell may know it. Its really suprising how many people are active on the n/s scene today who were at that all-dayer. After the all-dayer I thought the scene would disappear totally down south. Wrong again Smith
