What Do You Think Of This? Soundclip
Cast a line and wait....I knew by writing that line a buddy would be bursting to reply with a quip like yours Blake hehehe. In the mid 90's money was literally falling out of my pockets, I was single had no car and was going to the states record hunting for 3 weeks every year. So what do you think of the record then Blake? When I tell you what I paid for this particular record you'll realise I had more money than sense then..... derek

"i'm So Jealous" Sounclips
Calling themselves the Hi-Lites this song first appeared on the Daran label in 1964. The group morphed into the Chilites and a year later the song came out on Blue Rock. Is it exactly the same mix? But my favourite version is the stormer by Samuel Moore & the Chi's-TNT's on DJO. Go on! Anybody wanna tag on some more versions/sound clips? derek 01_Hi_Lites.mp3 03_Chilites.mp3 02_Sam_Moore.mp3

What Do You Think Of This? Soundclip
In the mid 90's our merry band of pranksters used to travel down the M1 every month or so to a club called 'Pitches' in Rotheram. The guy that ran Blacknight Records in Sheffield used to always have a rather large sales box sat on a table which I used to plough through constantly. He always had a handful of more "interesting" things tucked away which he'd show to those he knew weren't shy with their money. This record came out of that pile. To add spice it's not in any of the price guides I've got and I've never heard of either the label or artist before. Surely you're curious now? It's dated 1974 and at 3:30 mins it's half a minute too long. It starts really nicely but has a bit of a wobbly phase 'bout minute and a half in. It's on the right side of good but a long way off from being brilliant. Doubt if you could play it in many clubs, Soul Essence & the Orwell are the only ones that spring to mind. If you know it don't give the game away just yet. It's all good fun innit, derek 04_DJ.mp3

Etta James "i'm So Glad" Cadet Dj
Etta James "I'm so glad" Cadet 5552 DJ Ex condition £15. P&P extra. Paypal +4% is fine. Off list replies please to D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk Review by Andy Dyson printed in 'Shades Of Soul' issue 32 from June 2006. Etta James - I'm so glad / I prefer you - Cadet You know there's always something to come along in our hobby that makes you scratch yer head and think bloody hell I thought I'd got all hers/his releases. A long time pal in the USA sends a half dozen of this never played dancer (I think) to me, so me checks me Etta James section and there it isn't. So on it goes, immediately "I'm so glad" is one of my favourite Etta 45's - pounding drums, brass the breaks and the powerhouse voice that Etta was blessed with how can folk listen to the standard top few oldies again and again with reasonably easy tunes like this to play? Obviously there are other versions of this Radiants etc.. but this is certainly standout for my unprofessional opinion - rather nice flip version too. Probably worth £50 a few quid either way but yes pick it up! Etta_James.mp3

How Did It Get There!?
Since this interesting thread started I've been trying to think of an unusual record find of mine to add but couldn't. Then I remembered many years ago, 10 perhaps, having a Sunday afternoon walk with the dog in a lovely village called East Morton which is about 10 miles north of Bradford. We came across this old antique shop (more like a junk shop masquerading as antiques but that's another story) and called in, after pottering about downstairs I went upstairs for another mooch about. There on the floor propped up against a table was a small handfull of albums, 3 or 4 at the most, second one in Sam Dees "Show must go on" Atlantic. How bizarre eh? Of course you pull it out of the sleeve expecting it to be battered but it was stone mint. Flogged it for £40 in the end and no I didn't give it to charity. derek
