  1. It wasn't me that said anything about the 100 employing women before you raised it - was someone else - get your facts right Richard
  2. Just keep on keepin' on R
  3. Right on Brother That is what the Northern and rare soul scene is built on - whether collector, DJ or dancer It's fundamentally about 'doing the knowledge' (like London taxi drivers) and about rarity (obscurity might be a better word for the music), and authenticity - that's what sets the men apart from the boys - or the women from the girls - takes a lot of hours, days, weeks, years on the clock. Look at mainstream or other scene DJing - the top people deal in the first plays, the unusual, the exclusive. Problem with our scene is every old bugger with a few records reckons they are a DJ - and the ones who don't do 'the knowledge' and don;t play OVO are on the bottom rung IMVFHO Cheers Richard
  4. That's just you assuming isn't it - or actually casting aspersions about 100 Club DJ selection policy I'm sure someone on here will put you right - unless they can't be bothered, which is quite likely as it doesn't merit it Cheers Richard
  5. Don't be daft Barry - we love it KTF Richard
  6. What is that supposed to mean Barney? Cheers Richard
  7. Darn it - I knew I should have bid on it now - why couldn't you have posted that up yesterday Richard
  8. Well then - Bob this is where the sheep smiley comes in again (sorry - I'm harking back to your previous post and can't resist it) People should use their brains when spending money, not just be sheep and it's ridiculous for anyone to spend their money in a certain way just because other people (like soulsourcers) will approve/disapprove. I presume the people that bid a lot of money on this record did so mainly because they think other people will approve of this, or will think they are somehow a better person - someone to admire - and that they will then have a desirable artefact that others crave. I think they are wrong and that they must be sheep Go your own way - that's my take on this (sorry again for the sheep smiley) Cheers Richard
  9. This thread finally seems to be reaching it's true potential   Cheers Richard
  10. Andy - you should have had Taggart on instead - then you could have done the accent as well - MUURRDERRREED! Cheers Richard
  11. Can we expect to see the number of young people on the scene (meaning attending venues) falling away with big life-changing events like getting married, having kids, new educational or career opportunities? This effect has been much talked about as far as original soulies. Of course many have returned since, but if the same thing happened with the younger folk, would the scene survive? Plus, what is the critical mass needed for the scene to remain viable - a couple of big clubs and say 15 or 20 local clubs around the country? Cheers Richard
  12. Hi Dave - interesting observation that - so you think us discussing the auction on here could have had a material influence on the finishing price (the retracted bid aside of course)? What did you expect it to go for and how many potential bidders do you think might have been put off by us Soulsourcers talking about it? Cheers Richard
  13. Yes, was quite interesting to watch. In some ways I'm surprised nobody came in late on this and that all the meaningful bids came in very early (a strange tactic for an experienced eBay buyer I would have thought). Spotted that the reason given for the bid retraction of $888 was "Entered wrong amount" Cheers Richard

  20. Yes - that Lou Courtney is a fabulous record Richard
  21. Question is - anyone out there even madder than the high-bidder? Of course, we have a good idea from previous events that there is still quite a bit of headroom in their current high bid. I'm sure we will be glad when it's all over, but I wonder if there are any more twists to this tale? Some people seem to want to spend money on eBay just because they are being bid against. In the absence of competition they don't seem to bother. Cheers Richard

Canadian releases generally look pretty classy. I love them. Often look a bit like the best combination of the US and UK issues, if you know what I mean. Cheers Richard
  23. Nice tunes Jim How is 'rare soul' different to 'Northern' or the other categories? Cheers Richard
  24. Ian - got to say that's a top set - pure class Cheers Richard
