  1. === hi dan no offence taken mate as a collector mate u tend to try and complete on occasion certain labels,,done it with grapevine, casino classics ,black magic ,destiny etc etc theres always one or too that tend to be more elusive and the chase if often more exiting than obtaining the 45s.. took me ages to the funkees on black magic ,and jason knight on casino classics and the same as i explained about the atlantic 45s but then when u get the records out and see you've got the complete run on a label ie atlantic 584001 - 100 its a nice feeling, cant explain it really - its justa feeling anyone else like this or is it just me?
  2. === hey thats gr8 ,,had a feeling it would (wanna sell?) i think with some of the Atlantic s they are just a bit obscure rather than rare. Bobby Darin-s - the lady came from baltimore took me ages to find ..and billy jo royale - downby the boondocks -584002 both crap records by the way. 584200 is the original version of mr bojangles by jerry jeff williams a real nice tune and rare also there some real one offs interms of 'why would you wanna go into a studio and record that?' like pig snoots and theme from rosemarys baby but it was a very enjoyable couple of year s collecting these 45s

  4. === hi blake wont be selling like that mate had two stints at collecting this lot once when i was at school asking all the kids if their mums and dads had any old labels that were red and had atlantic on them... got upto about 150 of them and sold them all in a fit of rage to rudzi once,,,took em all over in a old kellogs cornflakes box..(not the packet) then about 7 yrs ago got really pisssed of with northern etc and started to collect these with a vengeance and only missing a handful some of the hardest to pick up were the bobby darins who had 12 releases on the label, art freeman. vala regan and barbara lewis i picked up quite easy the elusive one however is wilson picketts- that kind of love - 584173 never seen it rumoured not to exist but is in all the discographies... ref mike williams - lonely soldier cant see why people like this one tho... best surprise for me was 'soul surviviors - mama soul' which i immediately started playing about 3 yrs ago - remembering janine asking what that 60s pop thing was u played but now it started to creep up in price and getting noticed on ebay shouldnt be too hard to pick up..

  18. -== i think being a good oldies dj is the same as a newies one if u dont get the exposure to break either the tunes you are trying to champion are not gonna get much airing.. when i m djing its usually main spot at a soul nite or at the begining or end of an all niter but i still try and spin a few new old ones to complement the requests of the punters, while always trying to be different as with most collectors i can do old oldies til the cows come home without resorting to cds but its not very inspiring sometimes despite getting a buzz from people dancing to your records during my 3yrs at the marrs barr niter ive managed to break or rather remind the soul world that there sounds are out there still like the following , not to everyones taste but at least appealing to some Brooklyn Bridge - Free as the wind Lost Family - Blow my mind Peggy Scott - you got it all Joanne Touchstone - Walk Softly Hank & Claude Garbo - fox in a mini skirt also i reactivated aint no mountain high enough by marvin & tammi at the marrs and literally had a dozen people come and say how refreshing it sounded and they hadnt heard it for years remember once when i played heavy music by bob seger at the marrs and was lambasted by a another soulie who thought it was a youth club sound but i liked it and got two others that did so it evened it up a little also when im playing ill ALWAYs spin an instrumntal or 2,,
  19. 584001 - 584324 from percy to aretha ,from art freeman to vala reegan im thinking of selling my UK red Atlantic collection got all of em apart from the 2 led zeps,,the vamp single the rare yes 45 any one idea i should be asking?

  22. === too true although i love most of the old wigan sounds and am still on my pilgramage to collect every tune that was played there.. im still dumbfounded at some of the stuff that got played some of the worst joe 90 jonathans experience @ mgm - (richards old hi boys cover up) chantells - runaway.. one thing is u cant blame me..i wasnt around til a few years later
